Here's what's going on. I've got a server, which I'm http://serverfault.com/questions/82007/how-do-i-get-this-sql-server-odbc-connection-working calling MYSERVER, running Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005. Right on this server itself, I've got an ODBC connection set up pointing at itself, and that already works perfectly. I log in using SQL Server Authentication (not Windows authentication), and it's set up like this: Like I said, that one works. But next, I've got another computer which is on a totally different domain/not on the intranet, that needs to access this same SQL Server hosted on MYSERVER. Because it's on a different domain, it doesn't recognize the name "MYSERVER"; I have to point it at the IP address of MYSERVER, which we'll say is 123.456.789.012. But the ODBC connection doesn't seem to work there. I tried setting it up like this: This doesn't work. When I put in the username and password and press Next, it stalls for a good 10 to 20 seconds, and then finally comes back with the following error: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 1326 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBN

Solved SQL State 01000 Error 11001 and State 08001 Error 6 Posted on 2012-10-11 MS SQL Server MS SQL Server 2008 1 state 01000 Verified Solution 3 Comments 10,940 Views Last Modified: 2012-10-31 Hello, I'm having some issues connecting to our SQL database over TCP/IP. We have an Access database that we use to run queries on a SQL database hosted on our server. We are using SQL Server 2008 R2. When setting up the User DSN in ODBC Administrator these are the settings being used: Name: Name Description: Description Server: sql server error Server\Database Using SQL Authentication Client Configuration Settings are set to connect via TCP/IP Connect to SQL Server to obtain default settings for the additional configuration options is checked. Login ID: Username Password: Password We are using SQL authentication because the user is not connected to the domain. TCP/IP has been enabled from within SQL Server Configuration Manager and the Client Configuration. Firewalls between the computer and server have been disabled during testing with no luck. I've tried searching Google but I have been unable to find a solution that works for us. I appreciate your help! Edit: Here is the full error message Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 11001 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 6 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found. 0 Question by:qualityip Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution byqualityip The solution was to use the SQL Client driver in ODBC Administrator rather than the SQL Server driver. the previous tutorial. After clicking Next on the SQL login information screen, ODBC manager will try to connect to the SQL Server with the login information you provided. After a period of waiting time, you may get error message box saying that: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 53 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB] ConnectionOpen(Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB] SQL Server does not exist or access denied. See the picture below: Three possible reasons for the failing: Wrong server name - You provided an incorrect server name. SQL Server not configured to take a network connection - You need to check the SQL Server configuration. Wrong login name or password - You provided incorrect login name or password. The first and third reasons are easy to validate and correct. The second reason requires further investigation.
