There Are Not Enough Licenses Installed To Perform The Operation. Srm 6
am running ESX 3.5.0 Server (Build 207095). After a power failure, none of the VM's will start, returning the my vmware error "A required license ESX Edition is not reserved". The host is up and running, the VM's are visible but attempting to start any of them returns the error. Unfortunately, the license server is one of the VM's. I've attempted to load the Evaluation License which also returns a license error. I have no idea how much time is left on the eval, but there should be some, according to the tech who built the server. This system has been running fine for more than a year. One oddity: we had created startup scripts to launch the various VM's as the host started but they have all disappeared (from the root home directory); very strange. Beginning to think they took a vacation with the Eval license file!Any idea as to how can I get the Eval license in place so as to power on the license server VM and re-point to the host license?Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks. ~Neal 1126Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. Re: Catastrophic Failure - Lost License idle-jam May 22, 2011 8:50 AM (in response to Parsimony) why not login to your vmware account https://www.vmware.com/licensemgmt/license/summary.lic and retrieve your license key from there? (assumed you guys did purchase the license). the other way would be getting a temp license from your local vmware SE while you purchase the license. and lastly you could use vmware converter to migrate it elsewhere to run or backup it up else where format it with ESXi and get the free license and restore back via vmware converter again .. to an ESXi Host Under certain conditions, you might not be able to assign a license key to an ESXi https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/topic/com.vmware.vsphere.troubleshooting.doc/GUID-252F28AD-AD5E-4559-BD98-3EA7B9360782.html host asset. Problem You try to assign a license key to an ESXi host, but you cannot perform the operation and you receive an error message. Cause You might be https://books.google.com/books?id=qXw9p1nzb9QC&pg=PA167&lpg=PA167&dq=error+a+required+license+esx+edition+is+not+reserved&source=bl&ots=eu6vzsNAZC&sig=VlXZrkS_ukRLu8xk7jaGD69ZG7g&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj2y76DxcfPAhUl9IMK unable to assign a license key to an ESXi host because of the following reasons: ■ The calculated license usage for the host exceeds the license capacity. For example, there are you have a vSphere Essentials license key with capacity for two processors. You try to assign the key to a host that has four processors. You cannot assign the key, because the required license usage for the host is four processors. ■ The features on the host do not match the license edition. For example, you might configure vMotion and there are not DRS on a cluster of hosts while you are using evaluation mode. Later, you try to assign Standard license keys to the hosts. This operation fails because the Standard edition does not include vMotion and DRS. ■ You do not apply the correct license key. ■ The host is connected to a vCenter Server system that is assigned a license key that restricts the edition of the license that you want to assign. For example, vCenter Server is licensed with vCenter Server Standard, and the license key is for vSphere Essentials. Solution ■ Assign a license key with larger capacity. ■ Upgrade the license edition to match the resources and features on the host, or disable the features and resources that do not match the license edition. ■ Assign a correct license key. To license ESXi hosts, you must assign a vSphere license key. ■ Assign a license key whose edition is compatible with the license edition of vCenter Server. For example, if vCenter Server is licensed with vCenter Server Standard, you need a vSphere Standard license
