Type Question and Answer Last Updated 16-MAY-2008 14:37:35 How can I correct a Non-algebraic variable http://tibasicdev.wikidot.com/errors in expression error on the TI-89 family, TI-92 family, and Voyage 200 graphing calculators? A Non-algebraic variable in expression error is returned bya TI-89 family, TI-92 family, and Voyage 200 if there is a value stored to a variable that appears in the expression. Refer to the steps outlined below in order to restore the variable to its default state (no value stored): • Press [CATALOG] then https://epsstore.ti.com/OA_HTML/csksxvm.jsp?nSetId=78780 press the [,] key to go to the alphabetical listings beginning with the letterD• Scroll down to selecttheDelVar commandand press [ENTER]• Input the variable used in theproblem (For example, if the variable in theproblem is x, theninput DelVar x• Press [ENTER] To clear any values stored to all1-character variables, a-z, refer to the following steps:• Press [F6] (On the TI-89 family, press [2nd] [F6])• Press [ENTER] or [1] tochoose 1: Clear a-zTo clear any values stored to all 1-character variables, a-z, on the Voyage 200 refer to the following steps:Press [F6] (On the Voyage 200)Press [1] : Clear a-z...On the diaplay it will read Clear 1-character variables a-z in current folder?Press [ENTER] for YESNow attempt thecalculation again. For additional information on this and other commands, refer to the online guidebook for your calculator.

No Yes © Copyright 1995-2016 Texas Instruments Inas ERR:SYNTAX or ERR:DOMAIN. This table contains each error type, possible causes, and suggestions for correction. The error types listed in this https://education.ti.com/html/webhelp/EG_TI84PlusCE/EN/content/eg_refguide/m_errors/em_errormessages.HTML table are each preceded by ERR: on your graphing calculator display. For http://mathhelpforum.com/calculators/180471-matrices-ti89.html example, you will see ERR:ARCHIVED as a menu title when your graphing calculator detects an ARCHIVED error type. ERROR TYPE Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies ARCHIVED You have attempted to use, edit, or delete an archived variable. For example, the expression dim(L1) produces an error if L1 ti 89 is archived. ARCHIVE FULL You have attempted to archive a variable and there is not enough space in archive to receive it. ARGUMENT A function or instruction does not have the correct number of arguments. The arguments are shown in italics. The arguments in brackets are optional and you need not type them. You must also be sure to separate error data type multiple arguments with a comma (,). For example, stdDev(list[,freqlist]) might be entered as stdDev(L1) or stdDev(L1,L2) since the frequency list or freqlist is optional. BAD ADDRESS You have attempted to send or receive an application and an error (e.g. electrical interference) has occurred in the transmission. BAD GUESS In a CALC operation, you specified a Guess that is not between LeftBound and RightBound. For the solve( function or the equation solver, you specified a guess that is not between lower and upper. Your guess and several points around it are undefined. Examine a graph of the function. If the equation has a solution, change the bounds and/or the initial guess. BOUND In a CALC operation or with Select(, you defined LeftBound>RightBound. In fMin(, fMax(, solve(, or the equation solver, you entered lowerupper. BREAK You pressed the É key to break execution of a program, to halt a DRAW instruction, or to stop evaluation of an expression. DATA TYPE You entered a value or variable that is the wrong data type. For a function

If you want to compute the determinant, then you should use Code: det([a,b,c;d,e,f;g,h,i]) and so on for other types of operations. So for your example, to find the eigenvalues, you could do it all in one input: Code: csolve(det([3-x,-5;3/4,-1-x]) = 0,x) I put csolve just in case the eigenvalues are complex. I hope this helps! P.S. You need to make sure that nothing is stored in the variable you're using! Otherwise you'll get an error!! The easiest way to fix that would be to use DelVar "list of variable(s)" Follow Math Help Forum on Facebook and Google+ May 13th 2011,10:25 PM #3 slapmaxwell1 Senior Member Joined Aug 2009 Posts 350 thanks alot for that, by the way what is this cssolve command, i never heard of it before.
