How do I cause Apache to log Internal 500 errors into the error log? apache error-logging share|improve this question edited Dec 11 '13 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4731364/internal-error-500-apache-but-nothing-in-the-logs at 6:05 Eric Leschinski 45.9k23219189 asked Jan 19 '11 at 3:04 wcolbert 5402821 I had same issue using PHP with virtual hosts....no errors (Apache2, Ubuntu). Ended up being missing PHP modules (mysql, json, etc.) –user484474 Aug 7 '11 at 19:57 On ours, it was sending them to the access log (presumably because from Apache's point of view, it was working correctly and merely passing them along, from a deeper layer -- in our case, Passenger/Rails). Just putting this note here in case somebody is scratching their head. –Tom Hundt Jul 8 at 18:29 add a comment| 7 Answers 7 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted The error log usually has the (more) specific error. often it will be permissions denied or even an interpreter that can't be found. This means the fault almost always lies with your script. e.g you uploaded a perl script but didnt give it execute permissions? or perhaps it was corrupted in a linux environment if you write the script in windows and then upload it to the server without the line endings being converted you will get this error. in perl if you forget print "content-type: text/html\r\n\r\n"; you will get this error There are many reasons for it. so please first check your error log

I was working fine with wamp. Suddenly I am facing a 500 internal problem that I never saw on localhost. When I am trying to visit http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1 , My browser is showing me an error page with following texts. I got a solution for this problem. 500 Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, admin@localhost and inform 500 internal server them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. How to fix 500 Internal Server Error on LocalHost for WAMP Server This kind of error is happened if apache mod_rewrite feature of your server is not enabled. By default WAMP server does not load this Apache Mod Rewrite module. It is disabled by default. You have to enable a this option to load this module. There is line in WAMP Apache configuration file about this but that is commented by default. To enable this mod_rewrite feature follow this instruction. Look at Wamp icon in notification area on system tray (near Clock in Windows OS) Click on the WAMP icon Go to Apache>httpd.config A Configuration file will be opened in "Note Pad" or your default text editor. Search the text "mod_rewrite" , you will find a line "#LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so" Uncomment this line by removing the Hash "#" from the beginning of the line. Save the

I have Apache server on WinXP machine, and I have a very odd problem with it: My server was running for a couple of years and all works fine but 2 weeks ago Apache starts generate “HTTP/1.0 500 Internal Server Error” on any PHP errors. Pages without php errors are working fine. PHP works fine by itself. When I’m trying to run any script with errors in console, PHP displays all errors correctly. But when I’m trying to run it through Apache, it doesn’t display anything and get me following response: Quote: HTTP/1.0 500 Internal Server Error Date: Tue, 19 Feb 2008 23:07:57 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.6 (Win32) PHP/5.2.4 X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.4 And nothing else! I was trying to make it write errors in log file (error_log = "C:\PHP\error.log" in PHP.INI) – the same thing! If I run script from console, errors has been written in the log file. If I run scripts from Apache, nothing has been written at all. I’ve checked apache log files – nothing useful, only lines like this one: Quote: 127.0.0.30 - - [20/Feb/2008:02:07:57 +0300] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 500 – I was trying to uninstall Apache and PHP, trying to install various combination on Apache, Apache2, Apache2.2, PHP4 and PHP5 – the same thing. I’ve already spent a week on this problem , have you any ideas? PS. Sorry for my English.
