There is a major confusion that has been caused by the PHP developers naming a PHP module the IMAP module, even though phplist installation guide it is used for more than just IMAP. phpList needs the IMAP functions in PHP in order to connect to the mailbox that will hold the bounces. The mailbox itself is a POP3 mailbox, or you can configure it to be a local mailbox files, but whatever the situation, the IMAP functions are necessary. IMAP functions in PHP have nothing to do with the actual IMAP protocol (at least not as far asphpListis concerned). You should be able to solve this issue by installing (and compiling) the IMAP module into PHP. If you are on a shared hosting account, you should contact your hosting provider. Fatal Error: Cannot connect to database, access denied. Please contact the administrator This error indicates there is something wrong with your database connection details. A Database connection requires four things, and they are very sensitive to errors (just one little typo and it won't work): 1) a database host (the name of the server, in many cases "localhost" works, but not always), 2) a database "user"

I am receiving 500 Internal Server Error message after my PHPList installation via Fantastico. The Internal Server Error is commonly caused by incorrect permissions of some files/directories on your account or un-supported directives in the .htaccess file. If you need to change the permissions of your files or folders you can do this from cPanel -> File Manager. After selecting the file or folder you can change the permission from the menu on the left top corner of your screen. You can check exactly which files/folders have incorrect permissions in cPanel->Error Log. For more information about this issue, please refer to: https://www.siteground.com/kb/internal_server_error_500/ In case the above does not solve the problem you can check your .htaccess file for un-supported directives. Usually, PHP directives are placed in the .htaccess file and this is not allowed on most servers. The .htaccess file is located in the directory where your PHPList is installed. You can edit it by using the build-in editor of the File Manager tool in the cPanel. You can complete this by logging into your cPanel and selecting the File Manager. I know almost nothing about php. All I know is that when I want to install something, I drag it into my ftp client. And, occasionally, 500 internal I read the docs and I have to go to notepad change some words/values (I don't have a clue what they mean--I just try to follow the directions). Okay-- Now I'm trying to install phplist. I was getting a 500 error, so I googled "How to install phplist". The webpage I pulled up says: All php values should be removed from your .htaccess files to avoid the 500 internal server 500 internal server error. Creating a php.ini file to manipulate the php settings will solve this issue. Question 1 -- "All values should be removed from .htaccess files" Umm.... what's a "value"? I'm in notepad and I see: DirectoryIndex index.php
modified 9 years ago #580 closed Question/How do I...? (fixed) 500 Internal Error when using phplist Reported by: https://id.mayfirst.org/galbra Owned by: https://id.mayfirst.org/jamie Priority: Medium Component: Tech Keywords: website htaccess Cc: Sensitive: no Description I know even the description of this implies that there is barely anything that can be done about this, however. I was in the very beginning stages of installing phplist within the nymediaalliance.org folder, when I tried to access the folder (/lists or /lists/config) to attempt configuring it, I reached this error. 500 Internal Server Error - The server encountered an internal server error or was misconfigured... I imagine you have seen this before. I configured the config.php file correctly as instructed from your e-mail (I have attached it to confirm that), but yet I still seem to have reached this issue. The folder is located in ~/nymediaalliance.org/web/ and the permissions have not been modified to prevent file access. If you have any ideas or suggestions, I know this is a little outside the realm of support because it is an outside program, they would be much appreciated. Sorry to bother you, and I hope this can be fixed. Thank you. Adam Attachments (1) config.php (28.0 KB) - added by https://id.mayfirst.org/galbra 9 years ago.
