Mainly when I try and access the forums. I needed to refresh the page about 6 times before I could even get this forum to come up so http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie7_6-windows_xp/i-cant-use-any-search-engines-500-internal-server/c623197d-3b6b-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5 I could post this. Is this something on RR's end or something I should investigate from my end? I can't say I've had any similar issues with any other sites today however. Under the "500 Internal Server Error" line, it also says "cloudflare-nginx". I also had timeouts the other day after the DHS advised people turn off java or javascript. Those errors appear to be gone now and only at RR did I see those errors http://forums.radioreference.com/system-wide-administration/258434-500-internal-server-error.html as well. I don't recall the specific error message but figure those were related to the java flaws. If I see those again, I'll post the error message I see. I have previously installed the recent and latest Java update. I am using IE 8.0.6001.18702 with Windows XP. For now, I will assume it was a temporary condition. I was able to get to the forums just now from the email notice of your message so that is a good sign. I also am using IE8 but

I also posted this on yahoo answers; I really need a quick resolution to this problem, as it effects my work-at-home job and thus my wallet. I’ve been having this crap problem that just seemed to popup out of no-where for two days now. I use both mozilla firefox (have to use it for a part time internet assessor work at home type job) and internet explorer which I generally use otherwise. For some reason yesterday, after having some captcha window issues (not showing content properly), I was unable to access internet links through firefox and my work at home app int
October 24, 2006 in Apache, lighttpd, TroubleshootingYou get "500 - Internal server error" error message when a user tries to access your Apache or Lighttpd based dynamic php application (such as forum or blog software).
Generally, to solve this problem you need to take help of log files located at following location: => /var/log/message => /var/log/httpd/error_logs (/var/log/lighttpd/error_log or /var/log/httpd/error_log)So you may be wondering why your PHP script throws an Internal Server Error 500.This error only occurs because of web server software. However after looking through logs you may not find many details. This problem may be caused by:A malformed php cgi scriptAn invalid directive in an .htaccess or other config fileLimitation imposed by file system and server software (for example php log file size set to 10Mb)Missing php.ini (or cannot read php.ini file)In most case it is an invalid .htaccess directive. However recently I came across a web server w/o /etc/php.ini file. A long time ago I setup this server )Apache chrooted jail). So you need to maintain two files one outside jail and another inside jail: => /etc/php.ini => /chroot/etc/php.ini <-- this file was missing Many scripts open this file on fly to get correct configuration directives. If this file not found you get error 500. It took some time to figure out this problem. Finally strace helped me out to debug this problem. For me it was another day with another interesting problem ;) Share this on:TwitterFacebookGoogle+Download PDF version Found an error/typo on this page?About the author: Vivek Gite is a seasoned sysadmin and a trainer for the Linux/Unix & shell scripting.
