MT is probably our only hope here...I'll let you know if I come to some sort of a resolution. Reply like 6 dislike 3 flag Choose as best answer becker 08/01/2014 Generally it is a back-end issue where a gateway or proxy server doesn’t get a response from the upstream server, usually because the upstream server is down. After waiting a while, the gateway server will return a “504 gateway time-out” error. Since it is a server side problem, there isn’t really anything you can do if you are just trying to access a website. 'The request failed with HTTP status 504: Gateway timeout server response timeout.' I understand 'I think' that this is because the upstream request does not get a response in a timely fashion. But my question is this? How do I change the app.config settings in my win32 application to allow more time to process its data. I assume I require these changes to be made on my app settings as 504 gateway timeout the webservices and IIS hosting the ws are setup with extended times. The problem is not that your app is impatient and timing out; the problem is that an intermediate proxy is impatient and timing out. "The server, while acting as a gateway or proxy, did not receive a timely response from the upstream server specified by the URI." (http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html#sec10.5.5) It most likely indicates that the origin server is having some sort of issue, so it's not responding quickly to the forwarded request. Possible solutions, none of which are likely to make you happy: Increase timeout value of the proxy (if it's under your control) Make your request to a different server (if there's another server with the same data) Make your request differently (if possible) such that you are requesting less data at a time Try again once the server is not having issues share|improve this answer edited Apr 11 '13 at 11:22 answered Dec 13 '11 at 19:08 james.garriss 6,03444674 I experienced the same issue, bu

HTTP status codes are three-digit codes, and are grouped into five different classes. The class of a status code can be quickly identified by its first digit: 1xx: Informational 2xx: Success 3xx: Redirection 4xx: Client Error 5xx: Server Error This guide focuses on identifying and troubleshooting the most commonly encountered HTTP error codes, i.e. 4xx and 5xx status codes, from a system administrator's perspective. There are many situations that could cause a web server to respond to a request with a particular error code--we will cover common potential causes and solutions. Client and Server Error Overview Client errors, or HTTP status codes from 400 to 499, are the result of HTTP requests sent by a user client (i.e. a web browser or other HTTP client). Even though these types of errors are client-related, it is often useful to know which error code a user is encountering to determine if the potential issue can be fixed by server configuration. Server errors, or HTTP status codes from 500 to 599, are returned by a web server when it is aware that an error has occurred or is otherwise not able to process the request. General Troubleshooting Tips When using a web browser to test a web server, refresh the browser after making server changes Check server logs for more details about how the server is handling the requests. For example, web servers such as Apache or Nginx produce two files called access.log and error.log that can be scanned for relevant information Keep in mind that HTTP status code definitions are part of a standard that is implemented by the application that is ser
