Re: 511 Error connecting to /usr/sbin/vmware-serverd process emmar Nov 23, 2005 4:32 AM (in response to TomVDB) We had this issue, which for us was caused by the fact that VC was trying to manage it whilst we were also doing stuff in the MUI. Rebooting the box fixed it for us.E Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 2. Re: 511 Error connecting to /usr/sbin/vmware-serverd process TomVDB Nov 23, 2005 5:56 AM (in response to emmar) A reboot is not a solution we would like to see.. At this moment it's not a big problem because it's a non production environment.. but when it becomes production we have to switch of 20 servers to reboot esx.. (we don't have vmotion at this time..) The vmware-serverd process is eating up my CPU's (4 of them on an IBM eServer xSeries 460 w/8Gb RAM) up to 80%, where the httpd is a good second with the remaining 20% up to 60% as well. When I Google for the error, all I find are articles stating that killing the vmware-serverd process (which respawns automatically) and/or restarting the httpd.vmware process should suffice, alas, it doesn't make any difference..The VMware version is 2.5.2 and has been running perfectly for quite a while now. No changes were made to the system for at least the past 2 months. No VM's are running when this occurs; first I tried rebooting the ESX server but the problem occurs when trying to log on through the MUI. I already raised a
running Ubuntu Server 7.10 (32-bit) with VMware server installed from the Partner repository (1.0.4-1gutsy2 & vmware-server-kernel-modules-2.6.22-14). For the most part, things work https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-735071.html fine. However, every couple of days, VMware stops responding. The console http://geektalk.tochiazares.com/?p=140 (and vmrun and vmware-cmd) says something about "unable to connect to vmware-serverd process" (sorry, it's not doing it right now, and I don't have the error written down). /etc/init.d/vmware-server stop doesn't work if any VMs are running - it tries to shut down the VMs 511 error forever. If I manually kill off the VMX processes, vmware-server stop will run to completion, but it'll leave behind a vmware-serverd process that has to be kill-9'd. Once it's gone, I can start VMware again, and it'll work fine - for another few days. This happens on two different machines, both of which have a lot of 511 error connecting VMs starting and stopping. What can I do to make VMware more reliable? NazraxMarch 25th, 2008, 09:02 PMOk, it just started doing it again. vmrun list reports (yes, it really is duplicated): Error: The system returned an error. Communication with the virtual machine may have been interrupted. Error: The system returned an error. Communication with the virtual machine may have been interrupted The VMware server console (remote) reports: Unable to connect to the remote host: 511 Error connecting to /usr/sbin/vmware-serverd process.. vmware-cmd -l reports: /usr/bin/vmware-cmd: Could not connect to vmware-authd (VMControl error -14: Unexpected response from vmware-authd: 511 Error connecting to /usr/sbin/vmware-serverd process.) There's nothing out of the ordinary in vmware-serverd.log. No VMX processes are currently running. HarryZMay 6th, 2008, 10:07 PMHi, I've got the same problem. The reason was that in my /etc/resolv.conf I had defined a server that is virtually hosted on my VMware server. After removing that adress from resolv.conf and restarting the VMware server daemon (vmware-serverd restart) everything worked fine. -Harry Powered by vBulletin Versio
