Jesse Share Quote 10th June 2002 #2 C.Lambrechts Lives for gear This is a complete wild guess ok .... so don't shoot me if I'm completely wrong. Only used Adat a couple of times .... Are those tapes that don't play new ones ???? .... if so .... from what I can remember you are supposed to format them before useing them .... although I think you can do that while recording to them the first time too  sorry if I'm completely off though Share Quote 10th June 2002 #3 Tim L Lives for gear Re: ADAT ERROR 7 Quote: Originally posted by Cannon Fo So I have a single ADAT i use to to get it from to get the tapes off of satans recording tool and into Pro Tools. Share September 24, 2013 Ah' Yes, The Alesis 8 track SVHS digital tape machine, at times misunderstood, but easily the most widely used 8 track digital tape machinefor home studio musicians everywhere. It changed recording History forever, and for the better. The sound quality is still https://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/115-adat-error-7-a.html very goodeven by today's standards, even with all the newest computer sound cards, hardware and DAW software. Yes ADAT tape machines still can be useful today becausethey are portable, and they still sound very good. Plus they areeasy to setup and to use right away, as any tape based machine is. I will be explaining why they can be still http://www.ebay.com/gds/ADAT-Head-Hours-Maintenance-Guide-Read-Before-Buying-/10000000018073665/g.html useful, They do sound as good as any DAT recorder, and evenbetter than CD audio quality at 48 khz sample rate.8 tracks can berecorded to tape live at once through its professional analog +4 dbv inputs/outputs (also it has regular -10 db line level tape RCAor 1/4"8 ins/outs you can use at the same time) and alsorecord through it's ADAT Light pipe connection for digital 8 tracktransfers live at once without anydigitalaudio compression or analog loss. ADAT tape machinessound far better than many portable digital multitrack machines on the market because most of them stilluse some form of audio compression. And many portable recorders do nothave 8 ins andouts that you can use to record and playback at once in a live recording situation. Also by using theADAT ELCO snake connector you have eightprofessional audio levelrecording ins/outs at +4 dbv audio pro levelwith all Alesis ADAT machines.(except the LX20 model.) +4 db audio level recording and playbackis very important for audio quality especially when using ananalog mixer. When recording your live instruments at proaudio levels you will have cleaner dynamic audioan

If you hear a "motor" sound, but adat error 7 no transport activity, be sure to pop the bottom cover and check the CAM belt that is in the lower right corner of the mechanism. It may be broken. Er4 when threading tape, no drum fg toggle within 100ms of turning on motor (drum not spinning) Er5 PG period not within valid range (17-25 ms) Er6 Error while reading data section (invalid data) Er7: Alesis sez, "Bad write sector when machine is playing or recording in sync," but the reality of this message is the machine's inability to read good data from the tape. This could be a simple as the tape being non-formatted or that the heads need cleaning (you wish), it could also be a servo issue -- the head and capstan motors must be in precise synchronization -- and in many cases it is a failed head preamp (inside the head assembly). Not all service facilities can do in-head repairs.
