About 27% into the process, it stopped, then after about 1mn I got this message "output A:/ghost. err? then a YES and a NO options. The YES option generated another message like "write sector failure, result = application error 29005 1, drive = ....." followed by sector numbers, and a message telling me to contact Symantec. I had this probleme once before with the same laptop, but after cleaning the CD, it worked. This time though, it did not. Apparently it's a common problem, but I'm yet to find the solution. Either my CD is damaged (yes there are some visible scratches on it), or my hard drive is faulty. How can I figure this out, so I don't end up buying and a new hard drive, and a new recovery cd? If this is the case, the Toshiba recovery disk appears to use an older version of Ghost, that assumes you have a floppy disk drive. I'd recommend contacting the manufacturer to get a replacement disk. If this is not the case, please let me know which version of Norton Ghost you have installed, or which version you own from which you've created the Symantec Recovery Disk. Thanks! T

Reply #1 - Nov 13th, 2010 at 12:24pm @ Willard Quote:Write sector failure, result=1, drive=0, sectors 31 to 32 Looks like Ghost is working okay--I'm not sure about that, but based on what's here so far it looks like Ghost is reporting a *critical* error on HDD #0, in sectors 31 and 32.I would suggest running the WinXP *Check Disk* utility to see if it finds anything: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XPYou can run *chkdsk* without any repair switches (i.e. /f or /r) and get a summary of what it finds. Then you can decide if you want to do the repairs--looks like you would probably need to do *chkdsk /r* to repair any bad sectors.Let us know what you find! ____________________________________________________________________________________________No question is stupid ... but, possibly the answers are !
