It helps provide thumbnaill, aero effect, etc on the desktop. It sounds like this file might have become damaged or corrupt. I think I'd first do a full scan with your anti-virus suite to make sure this isn't a malware issue. I'd do a second (or third) on-demand scan with Malwarebytes and ESET Online Scanner. (No anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a product we'd all be using it. So a second or third scan might find things the other scans missed.) If the dwm error just recently started you could try restoring your computer to an earlier date/time with System Restore. System Restore You could also check for damaged or corrupt system files by running a system file checker scan from an eleva

My Windows Aero has stopped working on my machine and I have been unable to fix the problem. The Aero does not work any more, it all started when I updated my graphics card driver to its latest version using a program known as SlimDrivers, after the update and a reboot, the transparency was gone and I am unable to change my theme to one which has aero enabled. It just looks like the view of Windows 7 Starter, no aero effects and so on. I did not, unfortunately, make a system restore point, I often do but this was the one time I was lazy and couldn't be bothered to make one. If I go into the Control Panel to change the desktop background or aero settings it reads at the bottom, "Troubleshoot problems with transparency and other aero effects". I have run the troubleshooter many times and the report it gives back is that the DWM isn't working, so I go to services to see if its stopped and it hasn't, apparently the service is running fine. I have restarted the service many times without any change. I tried CMD commands to turn it off and on (didn't know if it would make any real difference), net start uxsms then net start uxsms. Nothing. Still the same issue. The issue is irritating me now as I cannot find out a way to end the problem. Windows says the DWM isn't on but at the same time it tells me it's running. I considered repairing Windows with a Installation CD but I don't own a Windows 7 Professional CD. If that is indeed the only way to fix the problem, is it a case of getting an ISO and burning it to a disc to use the repair functionality of it? Your help is greatly appreciated. Reports: · Poste
