Wednesday, June 03, 2009 10:29 AM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Hi Karim,Try these steps to rename the problem dll file.1) Boot the Computer and keep on pressing F8 before the Computer starts to boot to Advanced boot menu2) Select Repair your computer from advanced boot menu and proceed with the onscreen instructions and get to System recovery options. 3) Select Command prompt from System recovery options Type the following commands and hit enter after each command C: cd windows cd system32 ren faultrep.dll faultrep.dll.old4) Exit from command prompt 5) Restart the computer and boot normallyIf you the get the black screen with a similar error and a different file (other than faultrep.dll), make a note of the dll file, repeat the steps from 1 to 5 and type that file name in step 3. Restart the computer. It may take a while and will ask you to login to the desktop. Check in system properties if SP2 is installed.Hope this works. The only difference being the numbers in the x/y which I assume is an indication of current file of total files being checked. I tried the recovery suggested of renaming the file, but on the next restart attempt the same issue, still on faultrep
