I'm using iis express and computer name but not fully qualified. In my hosts file I have my computer name set to 127.0.0.1. I will try using the fully qualified name to see if it helps –ptn77 Jun 25 '13 at 20:09 I tried it with the fully qualified domain name added to my computer name and still get the same error. The reason why I need to use the computer name instead of localhost is that I want to trace it with fiddler. Fiddler will not work with localhost. When I use my computer name, I am able to get fiddler to log but then I get the error "HTTP Error 400. The request hostname is invalid." from the ASP.net web api. –ptn77 Jun 25 '13 at 20:26 How is the site in IIS Express configured? Does it expect a hostname when requests are sent to it? –JB King Jul 2 '13 at 15:46 | show 2 more comments 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted I found the answer to this from another post on here. I had to update my IISExpress' applicationhost.config file and add a binding with my computer name on it. The link to the other post is here: Configure IIS Exp

The request hostname is invalid Jun 06, 2010 12:50 PM|blaine.miller|LINK Hi, All I'm trying to do is create a simple website. To bad request begin with. Nothing fancy, so all the fancy stuff I'll leave toll later. I've gone through three different versions of "setting up a simple website. None of them have worked for me. I am looking for an even simpler, step by step guide with examples on how to set up a simple, stupid website. And I thought Apache was supposed to be complicated! When I use the bad request - default site, I get the splash page no problem. When I try to serve my contect on a "new site" with the same IP and turn off the default website, I get the subject line error. I've been working on getting this danged thing set up for almost a month now. I'd appreciate any help you can offer in a simple, step by step mode. I don't need fancy, like I said. Nor a smart aleck. Just someone who's willing to hold my hand through the first setup. The frustration level here is intense. Thanks! For simple stuff why not edit the Default website and add your files to that location. Files will need to have NTFS persmissions like those for the files for the default web site. ...
