CMOS Config Problems Posted on 2004-11-22 Desktops_PCs 1 Verified Solution 5 Comments 629 Views Last Modified: 2008-02-01 Well, I tried booting up the computer and I try to get into the BIOS configuration by pressing F2

so that I can change the boot option to CD and install Windows 98 but it won't go in. It just says "Entering Setup..." and proceeds with the boot. After this, it gives me a "B: Drive Error". Even if I change the jumper on the motherboard so that it will go into BIOS config automatically it just continues with the boot and gives me the same error. The floppy drive can still dell beep codes 1-3-2 boot and I can use the Windows Startup Disk but I can't get it to boot from the HDD either. Anything that could possibly be conflicting has been removed and the BIOS has been upgraded (yes, it allowed me to do it and I didn't receive an error). If anyone has any ideas as to how to fix this, just post a reply. Also, I read on the motherboard's manual that there is a floppy disk that can be used to re-configure BIOS when you set the jumper on the motherboard to do so, but I also tried that and no success. Basically, all I need is to get into CMOS Setup so that I can change the boot order and get this working. 0 Question by:war6763 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 38 Best Solution bywesly_chen Hi, Have you try to pull out the motherboard battery for at least one minute and use plier or wire to connect the + and - pole of battery seat for at least 10 second. it tells me the B: drive has an error. So I ibm error codes press F2 during bootup (and see "Entering BIOS...") to clear that. Still get the B: drive error dell beep codes 2 short beeps in which I press F1 to resume, and then it tries to boot and ignores the fact that I wanted to go into BIOS. Anyone got any ideas? https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21216764/RC440BX-CMOS-Config-Problems.html P.S. I have tried adding a "B:" drive with a second floppy drive, but I don't have any multi-connector floppy cables, so I made one by self crimping a connector, but no go.Vertalen114 reactiesChris Wilson+010 There's usually a CMOS reset jumper pin on the motherboard, try to find your motherboard manual (online) and read that. Good luckVertalenJason https://plus.google.com/+JasonGreb/posts/i6mWUBxBj43 Greb+010 I think that is the problem... it was reset and enabled drive B:. I think the problem is that the BIOS was written in such a way that the error cancels the ability to go into BIOS.VertalenChris Wilson+010 Try http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/17780/eng/motherboards_desktop_rc440bx.zip&lang=eng&Dwnldid=17780&ProductID=207&keyword=RC440BX+Download that and unzip.... It tells youHow should the jumpers be set on my Intel RC440BX Motherboard? There is a single configuration jumper on the motherboard which is used to access configuration mode. All configuration options are then available through the BIOS configuration screen, including selection of CPU speed. (Refer to the Intel RC440BX Motherboard TPS (Technical Product Specification).)VertalenChris Wilson+010 Doesn't say that it would do that in the book ;) Could you upgrade the firmware maybe?VertalenJason Greb+010 I did set the jumper, and it automatically starts to go into BIOS, then the drive B: error again, then a boot to the OS (which isn't working because I also need to setup IDE in the BIOS). A firmware upgrade was done, no luck. I am really thinking t
