Have you tried cleaning the computer out from dust inside? Have you updated DirectX? You said you have tried many things, but you have not said what you've tried so we do not suggest things you have already done. ____________ ID: 927344 · Gundolf JahnSendmessage Joined: 19 Sep 00Posts: 3184Credit: 383,994RAC: 44 Message 927384 - Posted: 20 Aug 2009, 7:35:20 UTC - in response to Message 927316. The following information is part of the event: BOINC error: 183, Another instance of BOINC is running. BOINC (and applications) seem to run fine. I initially posted this on the BOINC forums and then posted that I http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=55835 thought I found the culprit. WELL.... I did NOT find the culprit...(its doing it again - it looked like it was fixed)...despite having uninstalled BOINC and then going through the registry to clear out every occurance of BOINC. Usually on a service installation. It is nothing to worry about for BOINC operations. The following information is part of the event: BOINC error: 183, Another instance of BOINC is running. This
2012 09:17:56 UTC Topic 196555 Hi all, for a few days (since Sept 25 to be precise) I keep getting the following error message: failed to rename xfer history file: https://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/forum_thread.php?id=9681&sort=5 Error 183 No work units are transferred any more. I even tried to de-install / re-install the latest BOINC client (Version 7.0.28 - WinXP 32Bit) but to no avail. Search in this forum as well as Google search returned nothing. Has anybody else experienced the problem ? And overcome it ? Thanks for any helpfukl hint. I think (one of) those files might be corrupted or in use boinc error 183 by another process than BOINC (AV perhaps?). Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. That is what the 'xfer history file' is for. Uninstalling/reinstalling BOINC won't fix this problem, as doing so won't delete anything from the data directory. You can try changing the daily transfer quota, depending on where you set it in the first place, through the web preferences or the local advanced preferences.
