To do that, turn off your printer and open the front access panel.2. Press and hold the white button, while turning on the printer. The toner, drum and error lights should remain lit.3. Release the white button and press it again twice.4. Release, pause and press again five times.5. If done correctly, when you plug your printer to your computer it should try to reinstall the drivers under Brother Maintenance Mode. We have since replaced the cartridge but the toner warning light continues to illuminate. We did try lightly cleaning out the cavity and drum. We did turn the printer completly off and unplug. The Brother printers use a counting gear on the left side of the toner cartridge and on new or replacement cartridge it is in the 11 oclock postion so it pushes a reset switch inside the printer. Once the toner has been inserted in a printer it moves to the 3 o'clock position. Hence you cannot use a cartridge that has been used in another printer to clear the error because the gear will have moved. Chances are that the new cartridge you purchased did not have the gear in the correct place so did not reset the toner counter. (not uncommon with Compat cartridges). Your choices would be to either take the cartridge back for replacement or remove the toner gear cover and manually move it to the correct
