Let us say that the machine is called XYZ. The following works: Remote desktop into XYZ Open SSMS and then connect to SQL Server running on XYZ Run the following: USE SampleDB GO CREATE TABLE [dbo].[SampleData]( [ColA] [varchar](50) NULL, bulk insert error file example [ColB] [varchar](500) NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] GO BULK INSERT [dbo].[SampleData] FROM "H:\Scratch\OUTPUT_Sample" WITH ( FIELDTERMINATOR = '$', ROWTERMINATOR = '\n', FIRSTROW = 2 ) GO This runs perfectly fine. Now, I connect to another SQL Server ABC by doing the following: Remote desktop into XYZ Open SSMS and then connect to SQL Server running on ABC Run the above script I get the following error: Msg 4861, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 Cannot bulk load because the file "H:\Scratch\OUTPUT_Scratch" could not be opened. Operating system error code 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). Can someone tell me how to fix this problem? I guess I need to give some permissions to some account but am not sure how to find this out nor what permissions to give that account. I get the same error when I use sqlcmd.exe as well. Any suggestions? sql-server-2008 windows-server-2008 share|improve this question edited Jun 12 '12 at 4:18 wallyk 41.9k84898 asked Jun 12 '12 at 4:14 Legend 45.2k70188325 I take it the file exists on the ABC filesystem? –Blorgbeard Jun 12 '12 at 4:18 I am a bit

BULK INSERT dbo.CentralRepository_Associate_Details FROM '/1CAAP/1413/data/csvtest1.csv' WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ';') and got the following error : Cannot bulk load because the file "/1CAAP/1413/data/csvtest1.csv" could not be opened. Operating system error code 3(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105). I guess error code 3 is a permission error. Just a request: I'm not very good as far as stuff like this is concerned. So explanation in layman terms would be really helpful. sql-server share|improve this question asked Jun 5 '14 at 7:29 user3455309 1111 migrated from stackoverflow.com Jun 5 '14 at 9:56 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers. First of all the path should be as Ilya explained in windows path format i.e C:\Files\FileName.CSV and you are also missing the ROWTERMINATOR clause of your bulk insert. –M.Ali Jun 5 '14 at 8:51 Hi Thanks, I need to run the file from the server. So is there anyway I can do it using bulk insert? or is there another alternative to do the same. –user3455309 Jun 5 '14 at 9:25 Is this file located o

SQL Server > Transact-SQL Question 0 Sign in to vote I'm doing a bulk insert to a sql server and when I do so, the SQL server connection string I have is logged in as admin, but when I press the "submit" button I'm getting this error. The file that I'm trying to open is bulk insert in a folder with admin read/write access and as I said the SQL connection string is for the admin account. I can also open the file from the SQL server.Anyone have any idea what causes this? The SQL server is SQL 2000 and the Web server is Windows Server 2003. The file path is relative to the server, not your PC. Also, if you are trying to use a share or a mapped drive it will not work. You need to use the UNC path.
