Anybody can ask a question Anybody can answer The best answers are voted up and rise to the top How to troubleshoot Cisco VPN Client Authentication Error 413? up vote 3 down vote favorite I'm a software developer contractor, and I've been given Cisco VPN access to a customer's network. It's a typical set up, using an RSA SecureID soft token, cisco vpn error 413 user authentication failed and I'm successfully able to connect through VPN Client (v 5.0.07.0440) when I run it within a VirtualBox instance (Win 7) on my development workstation. However, when I run VPN Client directly on the development workstation's OS itself (also Win 7), it has been failing, and gives me Authentication Error 413. That error is normally attributed to bad credentials having been entered, and every troubleshooting reference I've found points to user error being the only possible cause. Yet I'm certain that's not the issue here, as I can easily prove to myself when using the VPN Client on the VM and changing nothing else. I'm at a loss as to what that relevant difference is between the two environments. Any guidance would be appreciated. Log from VPN Client follows. Reason 413: User Authentication cisco vpn failed error message. In most cases, this issue is related to simultaneous login under group policy. The ASA uses Cisco adaptive Security Device Manager (ASDM) for configuration. Simultaneous Logins If the Inherit check box is not selected on ASDM, this parameter specifies the maximum number of simultaneous logins allowed for this user. The default value is 3. The minimum value is 0, which disables login and prevents user access. In order to resolve this issue, increase the value for cisco vpn error simultaneous logins. Choose ASDM and then Configuration > VPN > Group policy. Choose Group > Edit > General and remove the inherit checkbox for Simultaneous Logins. Choose the appropriate value. Do this instead: Close the VPN Client GUI Open "Services" (Click "Start" button, type "Services" and hit enter) Find the "Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service" and STOP it. Now single left-click on your connection icon in your system tray and select "Network and Sharing Center" OR Click "Start" button and type "Network", you should see "Network and Sharing Center" Look at your current connection and click on "View Status" At the bottom of the "Connection Status" dialog click on the "Diagnose" button Click the "Reset the network adapter "Your Network Connection"" option. Wait for the "The problem has been resolved" dialog to be displayed and click the "Close" button Close the "Network and Sharing Center" Go back to the services dialog and START the "Cisco Systems, Inc. VPN Service" Wait for about 15 seconds and you can now click on your Cisco VPN Client icon or start menu item. Now the tough part. Depending on how poorly the system is configured on your company's side you have to wait a few minutes until it times out your connection. Otherwise you will need to go through the above steps all over again. I hope this helps!
