Error Source: Microsoft OLEDB Provider for SQL Server Error Description: [Dbnetlib][ConnectionRead (WrapperRead()).] General network error.Error. Check your network documentation. We receive the above error even when we are trying to open the DTS package from local machine. So error [08s01] [microsoft][sql native client]communication link failure in order to resolve the issue we need to create a rule in Host Intrusion Prevent service to trust the sql server process and allow the communication to the sql server. Once you create a rule, you should be able to open the DTS package fine without any error. Parikshit SavjaniSE, Microsoft SQL Server Reviewed By Levi Justus TL, Microsoft Sql Server

Communication Link Failure Ssis
I am getting strange error when I try to backup database from the job and here is the background. It is the msdb backup job that runs as domain account and it is backing up to nework drive. This https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/sqlserverfaq/2009/08/20/dts-package-fails-to-open-with-error-dbnetlibconnectionread-wrapperread-general-network-error/ job never had problem until afterI apply SP3aAll user database have same problem except master database backup job is running without problem. If I take the backup syntax from job and run it under SQL Analyzer, it works. And here is the error message "Executed as user: Domain\ServiceAccount. 11 percent backed up. [SQLSTATE 01000] (Message 3211) 21 percent backed up. [SQLSTATE 01000] (Message 3211) 31 percent backed up. [SQLSTATE 01000] (Message 3211) 41 percent backed up. The step failed."I did all different approch like messing arround Shared memeory Protocal, setting up TCP/IP alias from SQL Client Networ Utility, messing around security group policy, etc and all did not work and I realized that master backup job is running and one of the new security changes that SP3a did was "corss-database ownership chanining" and I did enabled it per recommendation so I disabled it and all worked right away. I enabled back to seeif that casued the problem is it failed again.Anyone has any idea why that can cause above error?Any known KB article? The communication link error message is the generic [DBNETLIB][ConnectionWrite (send()).]General network error. Check your network documentation. This is reliably reproduced by leaving the app open for the night and resuming work in the morning. Since it's a backend server app this is a normal scenario. The funny thing is - we've migrated from SQL Server 7 to 2000 to 2008 and the issue is present on all of them. But what seems to matter is the OS on which we communication link failure run the app. On WinXP it works fine, on Vista/7 it fails. So the problem is at the client end. The results of Google on the error message cover a very wide spectrum of different causes (since this is a very generic error) and none of the scenarios found there are similar to ours. So perhaps someone around here will know what the problem is in our case? sql-server general-network-error share|improve this question asked Jul 9 '10 at 10:10 Vilx- 49.7k57194329 Does your app keep a single SQL connection open for the lifetime of the app? –Chris Bednarski Jul 9 '10 at 10:34 @Chris Bednarski - I think so, I'm not familiar with that part. –Vilx- Jul 9 '10 at 11:22 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote You should be able to reproduce this error condition on demand by: 1. Opening a database connection (in your client application) 2. Unplugging the network cable 3. Plugging network cable back in (wait until the network connection is restored) 4. Using the previously opened connection to query the database As far as I can tell from experience, client side ADO code is not able to consistently determine if an underlying network connection is actually valid or not. Checking if the database connection is open (in the client code) returns t
