minute: Sign up Connection Reset by Peer Error up vote 1 down vote favorite I am getting the following exception [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Connection reset by peer: socket write error Its happening on the application server when the web app tries to access a database located on another machine over a network. Now I have read some posts on this, and connection reset by peer socket write error ftp found many different answers. One was upgrading to the jtds driver from the com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver driver that we are using currently. Some say to change the pool size, some say its the network's firewall closing the connections. However, everyone in these posts says they solved the problem by restarting the application server. However my problem differs as the error will pop up once in awhile, cause a bunch of errors, then go away and the system will work fine. I talked to the system admin, and he told me that there are no network outages and insists it is not the network. So my question is, for those of you who have solved this issue, which solution is best? Do I upgrade the driver, change the connection pool settings, upgrade to C3P0 in hibernate? Below is the spring xml for configuring the hibernate datasource

The SQL Server it connects to is SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition SP3. Any ideas what is connection reset by happening? Either your network broke the socket between the driver and the DBMS, or the DBMS had a failure which required it to terminate the connection abruptly. Check the DBMS error log to see if there are any messages about having to kill a session. The job we created for that product often fails the first or second time it is run but usually succeeds the third time. Here is a typical error message: >>> 0 : 08S01 : com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Connection reset by peer: socket write error com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Connection reset by peer: socket write error at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerExcep >>> What tools can you recommend to help me track down the source of this error? I've reviewed the server Event logs and sql logs but they are silent at the time of failure. Also, do you leave the application running 24/7 or just on a as needed basis. In general, if you have a long running idle connection, SQL Server 2005 will close the connection. If you are using connection pooling, you will want to make sure the pooler test that the connection is still alive before handing the connection back to the application. To help track down problems, the SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver has built-in Java logging support. Which may provide additional insight into what's going on.
