This discussion is locked s01705661 Level 1 (0 points) Q: Error Code -1309 when copying large file I'm trying to back up a large (about 5.5GB) video (.mkv) file on to my external hard drive. It copies completely but once it is finished I get a message saying "Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error Code -1309)"I've searched for Error Code -1309 which always leads to Error Code -36, which sounds like a similar error but none of those solutions have solved the problem. The video works when run from the internal hard disk, so the file isn't corrupted.I can't cut the video into smaller pieces because I don't have video editing software that runs .mkvI have a MacBook (Late 2006) MA699xx/A with Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Cheers, MA699 (Late 2006), Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger Posted on Mar 31, 2010 8:26 AM I have this question too Close Q: Error Code -1309 when copying large file All replies Helpful answers by Limnos, Limnos Mar 31, 2010 9:05 AM in response to s01705661 Level 9 (54,240 points) Mac OS X Mar 31, 2010 9:05 AM in response to s01705661 Hard drive connection? I try to transfer a .mov I created but, it quits half way giving me the Error code 1309. I've looked at other threads where people have had similar problems. It seems that the drive has to be formatted for Mac to transfer a file as big as mine (13.89GB). That's not going to work, unless WinXP can also read/copy from that kind of drive. Is it possible to get that file onto the drive without reformatting to a Mac file system? The drive is formatted as FAT-32. (I don't know why Mac won't write to NTFS. That is very annoying having to delete my partitions and reformat for a simple file transfer!) It's plugged into the USB 2.0 port on the front of the box. FireWire isn't an option with this drive. Any suggestions? Remember, I have to have WinXP compatibility. #1 msbae, May 25, 2006 bobw uix_expand uix_collapse The Late: SuperMacMod Joined: Mar 29, 2001 Messages: 8,831 Likes Received: 6 Probably a file size limitatio
at 8:35:53 pm I'm having trouble backing up projects that are greater than 4 gb. I know that I've done something wrong. MY SET UP: moving files off my MAC to a firewire drive then to back up tapes. The problem lies with moving the files to the external fw drive. suggestions? gsReturn to posts indexReport Post •Re: Error -1390by Tony! on Jan 17, 2006 at 9:40:44 pm[Ganer13] "I'm having trouble backing up projects that are greater than 4 gb" What kind of projects (Final Cut, After Effects, DVDSP, etc)? What exactly is the problem you are having? Do you get an error message - if so, what? What happens exactly? [Ganer13] "The problem lies with moving the files to the external fw drive. suggestions? " A lot more details would really help us guess/diagnose the problem: How are you moving them off (Retrospect, Carbon Copy, Finder drag and drop, etc)? What OS are you using (be specific - 10.4.4, etc)? What kind of Mac do you have (exact model please)? What Firewire drive are you using (brand, model, age, size)? Is the drive plugged into your Mac directly or are you using a Firewire card? What have you done so far to try and troubleshoot the issue (for example: repaired the permissions and drive using Disk Utility or Disk Warrior, updated the firmware on your Firewire drive, removed any other devices plugged into your Mac that could be interfering - especially other Firewire devices, updated your OS, etc)? I'm sorry to ask so many questions, but we can't see your setup and can only rely on your words to describe the issue. The devil is usually in the details and is not a generic problem across all Mac's and OS versions. Most likely, I'm guessing its a problem with your Firewire drive, but that's just a guess based on almost zero info as I don't even know what the problem is exactly (check with the drive manufacturer for updates - see their website).
