B). When mounted via USB, files on partition B can be accessed fine. Partition A was working intermittently, but is no longer readable via any Windows tool I've tried. CRC error pops up with I try to access the partition, and Windows prompts me to format it. I've tried using various file recovery programs - but all the tools either fail to read partition A when I try to recover files from it, or they don't pick up the partition at all. Is there some way data error cyclic redundancy check dvd I can do file recovery at the disk level, and not the partition level, to get past this? Or, is it worth formatting the partition A so that hopefully it's accessible, and then running a search with file recovery software on the empty partition? Any suggestions appreciated. (Note: I've look at the other posts and can't find anything that fits my situation. I'm trying to find out if there's anything I can do aside from shipping the disk off to a expensive data recover company - which I can't afford. Thanks). EDIT: Let me put it another way. Is it possible to take an image of the entire disk, even though some sectors of the disk will throw up CRC errors? Because the disk seems to be continually degrading (and USB is slow), my thinking is that I can then run some of the 12 hr+ deep recovery routines hard-drive data-recovery share|improve this question edited Nov 21 '11 at 22:37 asked Sep 26 '11 at 4:38 Sam C 106113 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote The most effective tool Ive ever used for recovering files from a screwed drive is R-Studio. It's worked for me even when the partition table was damaged and couldn't be reliably rebuilt. share|improve this answer answered Sep 26 '11 at 5:10 John Gardeniers 23.5k83997 same here. Not exactly cheap, but the most effective way to recover data from a dead media short of sending it to a data recovery firm.
How to Get Data from Hard Disk after CRC Error? Posted by: Lucy John Follow me: @Lucyy_John Usually many people store their precious data on computer hard drive as they consider it as the safest virtual disk manager data error (cyclic redundancy check) media to preserve large amount of data for years; and because of such misconception, data error cyclic redundancy check external hard drive raw they always ignore to backup hard drive data to other storage devices and unfortunately they often meet to data loss crc error fix scenarios. Even if users are managing hard drive data carefully, they can experience data loss at any instance. Hard drive CRC error is a good example that strengthens this fact and anybody can http://serverfault.com/questions/315427/how-can-i-recover-files-from-a-disk-with-crc-errors meet such unexpected error. In brief, there is not anything specific which can help you in preventing CRC error on hard disk but fortunately you have technology means that can help you to overcome this problem and you can easily set your data loss. In case, data is not correctly http://www.yodot.com/hard-drive-recovery/recover-data-from-hard-drive-crc-error.html written on the hard drive, CRC error will be thrown and then data on hard disk won’t be accessible. OS corruption, power failure, physical damage etc can also result in hard drive CRC error. In Windows users are provided an in-built program that is CHKDSK that scans the hard drive to identify and resolve possible causes. Oftentimes CHKDSK does nothing even after scanning the hard disk for several minutes. Therefore, it is always suggested to go with the proper solution to resolve hard drive CRC error effectively. Here's the specifics: >Sister's laptop crashed. She needs data backed data error up. >Cannot enter Windows Vists, BSOD's. Safe Mode also crashes. >I tried attaching it to an external SATA>USB connector to back it up. Connected it to my Windows 7 PC. >Backup Drive is recognized, as is the HP Recovery Partition as G & H Drives respectively. >Upon trying to access the drive it tells me that it needs to be formatted. >Going into Computer Management tells me that the file system cyclic redundancy check is RAW & it is 100% empty of data. >Downloaded PCTools FileRecovery to see if it could see anything and it can pull the Recovery partition from HP but does not even see the G drive. I am signed into my PC as an admin...any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help. #1 ramoar, Feb 27, 2011 pcgeek11 Diamond Member Joined: Jun 12, 2005 Messages: 8,810 Likes Received: 27 Wellll, Actually you should backup the drive Before it fails.... There are numerous file recovery softwares out in the internet: http://www.piriform.com/recuva is one of the more popular. Her data and drive may be toast. All you can do is try. #2 pcgeek11, Feb 27, 2011 ramoar Junior Member Joined: Jun 6, 2010 Messages: 5 Likes Received: 0 Absolutely, it is looking like its toast. Could it be something with a corrupted partition or MBR? I'll check out that program. Thank You! Quick update - Recuva can actually see the G drive. So that is a positive step. #3 ramoar, Feb 27, 2011 Last edited: Feb 27, 2011 pcgeek11 Diamond Member Joined: Jun 12, 2005 Messages: 8,810 Likes Received: 27 It may just be corrupted. CRC Recovery Tool? Discussion in 'Hardware' started by J8son, Dec 19, 2010. J8son Corporal I have three internal SATA drives made by Western Digital (2x 320gigs and a 400gig). In trying to backup data between drives I'm getting the dreaded "Cyclic Redundancy Error" I'm sure these drives are failing and I plan to replace them with a single 1TB SATA drive. However, I must do all I can to recover these files first. I've read that it's sometimes possible to work around a CRC error as it's simply a mathematical algorithm. Can someone recommend a reliable data recovery tool? I'm willing to purchase a good pro level tool for the future. Thanks! J8son, Dec 19, 2010 #1 mcsmc MajorGeek Hi Have you tried Unstoppable Copier? It's good for damaged optical disks as well as the issue you're mentioning. You can download it here: http://www.roadkil.net/program.php?ProgramID=29 Best part? It's free. Personally, while some software is worth paying for, to a large extent I feel like I'm wasting money since almost every software license is worthless as soon as a new version of the paid software comes out. I try to stick to open source or freeware for most of my needs. mcsmc, Dec 19, 2010 #2 gman863 MajorGeek If your new 1TB drive is a Seagate, you might be able to disc cloning using DiscWizard, a free Seagate utility. It usually comes packaged on CD with Seagate retail boxed drives or (if you buy a bare Seagate drive) you can download it free at Seagate's website. I've used Disc Wizard many times; however not for combining three drives onto one. Prior to cloning the drives, you'll likely have format the new drive into three partitions. If interested in this option, I'd go here to download the program and read the instructions to see if DiscWizard will work for what you're doing: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.j...toid=d9fd4a3cdde5c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD Remember: This will only work with Seagate brand drives. Hope this helps gman863, Dec 19, 2010 #3 J8son Corporal gman863 said: ↑ you'll likely have format the new drive into three partitions.Click to expand... Actualy, what I meant was that I need to do my best to recover the files and then I'll just store them and do a fresh install onto the 1TB dri
