I did a google search and found that it could be a bad harddrive. I used the westeren digital drive software to confirm the problem. What I need to know is if I replace the drive and use the image to restore, will I have the same data corruption that the CYC error indicated? I have read that the error could also cause a bad image, but I have an older program, powerquest drive image, that I can run from a floppy so if the XML image doesn't work the powerquest will. I'm just concerned weather or not the saved data will be bad. Post a reply Discussion is locked

your disks (hard disks like your hard drive and optical disks like CDs and DVDs). A cyclic redundancy check error can what does data error cyclic redundancy check mean be caused by several different issues: registry corruption, a cluttered hard disk, an unsuccessful program installation, or misconfigured files. Regardless of the specific cause, the cyclic redundancy check error is a serious one and must https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/cyclic-redundancy-check-349658/ be addressed to avoid potential data loss or even a total system failure system. Luckily, there are a few simple ways to address this problem using (free) disk utility software.[1] Steps Method 1 Running the CHKDSK Utility 1 Access the CHKDSK utility. CHKDSK (or "check disk") is a built-in Windows utility that will scan and repair your drive's errors. It has the ability to find and repair a number of small http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Cyclic-Redundancy-Check-Error errors or file corruptions that may be causing the cyclic redundancy error. Right click the drive you want to check, then click Properties->Tools. Under “Error Checking” click “Check Now”. If a CD or DVD disc is giving you this error it may be the result of a scratch or some dust. Try cleaning the disk with a soft cloth before anything else. Optical disk errors are often not repairable. If you get this error on a Mac (less common), first try the built-in Disk Utility and “Repair” the disk. 2 Decide on a basic versus an advanced scan. Check boxes to indicate if you’d like to do a basic check and repair or an advanced one - the default is the basic scan. The basic scan should take around 15-20 minutes while the advanced scan may take hours. Make sure you’ve got the time set aside and don't disturb the computer once it begins. 3 Reboot the computer to begin the scan. If scanning the main drive on your computer (the one you’re booted up on), CHKDSK will not be able to run immediately and will instead schedule the scan for the next time you reboot the computer. You can continue use the computer as normal at this point - res

I've tried backing up my harddrive to a larger http://www.podnutz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=372 one because I'm upgrading from 40 to 120 GB. To do this, I tried to use DriveImage XML (also tried inside the BartPE bootup). However, about 30% through cloning, I receive the message: "Read Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)". Another backup program data error does something similar, so I'm guessing it's a file system problem with the source hard drive. If there's a quick fix for that, then I'm open to suggestions. Otherwise... I'm thinking of backing up manually, by backing up all files on my HD including Windows XP. Is this difficult to do? I want to do it through the BartPE CD bootup so that all the files are unlocked and therefore WinXP won't moan. Will the HD boot up once it's all copied over? 0 Back to data error cyclic top #2 Mudhi Mudhi Senior TEG Forum Member Members 13,492 posts Gender:Male Location:Taiwan Posted 13 January 2008 - 11:05 PM Use the drivesnpashot, which is also included in your Bart's PE, download the newer one before making the bart PE, but you could just use the existing CD, it can do restore although trial was expired. The step is boot to 40GB, make partitions on 120GB, for the first partition let say 80GB and mark it active, leaving the rest for second partition, format the second partition and give it a drive letter, then use the drive snapshot downloaded from www.drivesnapshot.de/en then backup your 40GB's C: drive to an image to the second partition of 120GB, shut down computer, unplug the first drive, plug the 120GB to the 40GB, or just swap it, then reboot again and boot to bart's pe, use snapshot to restore to 120GB's first partition. When restoring, snapshot will ask you whether to enlarge the partition or not, choose yes. Just before I go ahead with those steps, I would still like to just copy all files and folders manually from the BartPE bootable disk just in case. Will this make the new hard disk a replica of my old one? And will it boot properly? If not, then I'll go ahead straight away with wh
