Finally became legal, been lurking for a while. I have a 97 LSC w/ 76k on it and it won't start, no fuel pressure, I think. It has been a garage queen for a few months and it's past time to be driving it. Back in February I quarter car washed the engine bay, as I have done before. It had a couple of plug wells with water and http://www.lincolnsofdistinction.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?1694-No-Start-Long-story was missing on a couple of cylinders. I drove for it three days, 5 miles to work, before I could take the covers off and dry them out. Drove it into the garage, dryed everything as before and then it would crank fine, but no start. I also get the following messages on the interior vehicle message display: Engine Temp Data Error; Check Trac Control; Gear Display Data Error and sometimes a Fuel Flow Data Error. These were not diplaying before I parked it. The things I have done or checked include: new cam and crank sensors; whacked and reset trunk fuel cutoff; checked all the fuses and relays, one 10amp inside the car was bad, don't know what it was to as my owners manual has a different graphic than the actual fuse block, switched the trunk and fuel pump relays; tried two different OBD II testers and neither would connect to look at codes; left battery disconnected for a few days to see if I could wipe put any memory problems; twice cleaned and checked for dryness in the connectors by the M/C. The DVD service manual says that all of the message error are connected to the PCM network and mentions J1850. It also says that the Fuel Pump Data Error can cause the fuel to be shut off to protect the engine. Stil
NOT START paleez 1999 Lincoln Continental 1999 Lincoln Continental V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 195000 miles On the dash display I see the following: https://www.2carpros.com/questions/lincoln-continental-1999-lincoln-continental-lincoln-will-not-start FUEL FLOW DATA ERROR RPM DATA ERROR GEAR DISPLAY DATA ERROR The http://www.automotiveforums.com/t675556-discuss2002_lincoln_ls_gear_select_data_error_message.html car will not start when these message are shown. When these messages occur I find that by just waiting for some length of time (between 15 minutes and overnight) the messages disappear and the car will start. This happens without warning. The problem will repeat itself usually the next day data error or the next month. Very agravating! HELP! According to Mitchell One, a quick test procedure must be done with a scanner. I don't gear display data know that there is necessarily a problem with the PCM. Short of doing the above, you can check the pcm connections and verify grounds. a serious problem with this car. Driving and the motor shuts off and these two messages appear on the dash: Gear Select Data error and Check Advance Trac. What is the problem with my car and is there a Computer Reader tool out there I can buy that will tell me what part/circuit is bad, so I'm not tied to the dealer. Thanks, Steve shorod02-18-2007, 10:40 PMYou can try swinging by a local chain auto parts store. If there are engine codes, their scan tool should be able to read them. However, their tool probably won't be able to pull the codes for the ABS/AdvanceTrac or the transmission. To get those codes, you'll need to have the dealer read them, a professional shop read them, or pick up an OTC Genisys/Mac Determinator/Cornwell [something], OTC Nemesis, or Snap-On MT-2500 scan tool. These are not cheap though. -Rod ice262607-21-2010, 04:06 PMI have been having problems with my 02' ls starting on occasion, and I have noticed when it doesn't start the red light on the dash flasing quickly. So when I turn the key to the on position, I wait until the solid red light goes out to crank the car over and it starts right up. If I get a rapid flashing red light, I turn the key to off and then back to the on position (sometimes this may take more than one time) to avoid a cranking motor which won't start. Now I am having random stalls, usually in turns, where I get a gear select error or check advance track. With these errors, I also get that rapid flashing light... no check/service engine soon light, and the car has been starting right back up- but losing power steering/brakes in a turn is dangerous... Anyone know what's going on with my lincoln which only has 85,000 miles on it??? In addition I got a problem with the cruise either not engaging or only engaging briefly and warm air blowing out the passenger side with the a/c set on max. (I've search these last two things and I'm pretty sure I know what's going on with them, just haven't had a chance to fix them and now this) any help would b appreciated, seems like its just one thing after the other with this car right now... Sounds to me like you might be due for a new battery. These cars seem to have very sensitive electrical systems that don't function well, even on batteries that load test fine on the automated battery and charging system testers at the parts stores.
