The @ prevents only from displaying E_WARNING level messages. –Praveen Kumar Sep 7 '12 at 1:54 I think the issue might be an undeclared function, nothing to do with gzuncompress. Perhaps a missing system library as an alternative? –Bryan Sep 7 '12 at 2:02 I am getting a single line "data error" on console, nothing more. In these cases gzuncompress returns null also. –Davi Duarte Pinheiro Sep 7 '12 at 2:05 Well, the single line code as above give the error message, and it works with correctly compressed data, but I am not sure if I've missed anything. –Davi Duarte Pinheiro Sep 7 '12 at 2:06 @PraveenKumar - @ supresses everything. Even critical errors. It basically sets "error_reporting(0)" for the duration of the call. php.net/manual/en/language.operators.error
