By resetting the computer I'm assuming you removed the positive lead from the battery for 10+ minutes. Are you sure the thermostat is making your check engine light turn on? How did you verify this?Best answer to resolve all of this is one of two things. 1. Take it to a Ford dealer and have them run a diagnostic. Probably cost $90 US or so. 2. Cheap way, when you see the check engine light come on, take it immediately to an AutoZone or similar store, don't turn the car off, and they can hook up a hand held diagnostic machine for free. It just gives general error codes and nothing specific, but it'll give you a better idea of what's up.There's literally thousands of things that could lead to each problem you see happen. The check engine light would go on for a few days then it would disappear for a couple months. Now its back in full attack. My car has been shifting super hard and i believe the tranny could be slipping. when at a stop the speedometer is fine, then when i begin to accelerate, the speedometer either doesnt move or it jumps up and down erratically. This causes the transmission to not know when to shift so it engages different gears at the wr

What happens is this: at random times, all of the warning lights come on, all gauges drop to zero (except data error the gas gauge), the traction control turns off, the air-conditioner compressor turns off, and the message “Odometer Data Error” appears on the message center. Then, after a random amount of time, it recovers on its own and everything is back to normal. I have taken the car to my local Ford dealer. Of course the car wouldn’t do the trick for them. They were mystified, reprogrammed the instrument cluster with new firmware, and added fuel system cleaner to the fuel odometer data error tank (because there was an error code stored in memory of a potential fuel sensor problem). That did not solve the problem. I decided to take matters into my own hands at that point and removed the bezel from the instrument module and pulled out the module. I cleaned it up, looked for bad solder joint, solder splashes and bad connections, hooked it back up in the car but without reinstalling the bezel, and waited for a reoccurrence. When it did reoccur, I pulled the module out and disconnected/reconnected the main plug on top. That almost always caused it to straighten up (just stopping the engine and restarting usually did not). I recleaned the connector, but to no avail. Finally I got tired of that routine and ordered a remanufactured (by Ford) instrument module, had it programmed to the car with a fresh software download by the local Ford dealer, and put the bezel back on. Today, it did it again (with the new module). Anybody have any idea what I should do next? THE RPM WENT SKYROCKET, THE CAR LOST POWER AND WOULDN'T GO OVER 45MPH OR IT WOULD DO THE SAME AGAIN. IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS ON A VERY LOW GEAR, AS IT WAS AT 40MPH DOING ALMOST 4000RPM... I STOPPED AT A GAS STATION, TURNED IT OF AND LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. WHEN I TRIED TO GO BACK ROME, AFTER 2 MILES IT DID THE SAME, IT LOST POWER. I DROVE BACK TO THE GAS STATION AND HAD IT TOWED HOME.
