Db2 Error 1072
running 'db2start' you receive the following error: SQL1072N The database manager resources are in an inconsistent state. The database manager may have been incorrectly terminated, or another application may be using system resources in a way which conflicts with the way the database manager uses system resources. System resource cleanup may be required. Cause There are four main causes for this error to be returned: 1) DB2 was incorrectly terminated (on UNIX-based systems, for example, this may occur if the processes were terminated with the "kill" command, rather than the stop database manager command). 2) Another application or user may have removed the database manager resources (on UNIX-based systems, for example, a user with sufficient privilege may have accidentally removed an Interprocess Communication (IPC) resource owned by the database manager, using the "ipcrm" command). 3) Another application's use of system resources conflicts with the database manager's use of system resources (on UNIX-based systems, for example, another application may be using the same keys that the database manager uses for creating IPC resources). 4) Another instance of the database manager may be using the same resources. This could occur on UNIX-based systems if the two instances are on different file systems and the sqllib directories happen to have the same i-node (i-nodes are used to get the IPC keys). Answer To resolve this error run the following commands: 1) cd to $INSTHOME/sqllib 2) Delete the .ftok file: 'rm .ftok' 3) Create a new .ftok file: 'touch .ftok' 4) Run 'db2iupdt'. To do this, cd to the install/instance directory and stop your instance. Log on as user ROOT and run 'db2iupdt instname'. Where instname is the name of your instance. Error description Problem Description: SQL 1042, or SQL 1072 error is received when starting the second instance on a system with more than one instance. The issue occurs because of a change in the ftok() algorithim for AIX, which makes it possible for DB2 to generate duplicate keys. The change in the algorithim occurs with APAR IY17556. Local fix The problem can be fixed by running a script which will be made available on the external site, if it cannot be found contact IBM DB2 support.
