using DbConv to create new database Technote (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) Administrator creates brand new (blank) DB2 database. Administrator logs onto the Controller application server,
Sql State 42704 Postgres
launches 'Controller Configuration' and creates a new database connection to the database.
Sqlcode=-727, Sqlstate=56098, Sqlerrmc=2;-204;42704
Administrator clicks 'connect' and then clicks 'Create DB'. An error appears. Symptom Depending on the environment the error sql0204n is an undefined name. sqlstate=42704 may appear slightly differently, but it will be similar to: ** ERROR: com.ibm.db2.jcc.am.io: DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-204, SQLSTATE=-42704, SQLERRMC=CONTRO, DRIVER=3.57.82 ** ERROR: Invalid datbase, XFRANGO is empty Cause There are https://developer.ibm.com/answers/questions/17210/getting-error-while-inserting-record-in-db2.html many potential causes for similar-looking DB2 errors. NOTE: This Technote *only* relates to the scenario where the error contains the codes: SQLCODE=-204, SQLSTATE=-42704 In this scenario, there are several possible causes for the errors: Scenario #1 - DB2 database server is not using 'Oracle Compatibility Mode'. TIP: In this scenario, the error message will typically contain the word 'USER_TABLES' Scenario http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21681892 #2 - DB2 database client (installed on the Controller application server) has "Enable operating system security for DB2 objects" enabled. Scenario #3 - DB2 database has not been created correctly. Diagnosing the problem IMPORTANT: It is vital that you check the exact 'SQLCODE' and 'SQLSTATE' error numbers, to help you troubleshoot the root cause. Make sure that you check the error code reference numbers precisely. If they are different, then search IBM Technotes for different/specific advice for your error code. Resolving the problem Scenario #1 Delete the database. Re-configure the DB2 database server to use 'Oracle Compatibility Mode'. Re-create the DB2 database. Re-try. For more information, see separate IBM Technote #1613531. Scenario #2 There are two different methods you can choose: (1) Uninstall DB2 client (from the Controller application server), and re-install DB2 client. During the installation wizard do NOT enable "Enable operating system security for DB2 objects" or (2) Add the group " Everyone" to the Windows security local group " DB2USERS" on the Controller application server For more information see separate IBM Technote #1504470 Scenario #3 Dele

From my portlets I am executing a simple select statement: Class.forName("com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver"); String dburl = "jdbc:db2://localhost:50001/Portlets"; conn = DriverManager.getConnection(dburl,"db2admin","password"); String selectTableSQL = "SELECT Name from Users"; statement = conn.createStatement(); ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery(selectTableSQL); when i execute this i get the following exception: com.ibm.db2.jcc.am.SqlSyntaxErrorException: DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-204, SQLSTATE=42704, SQLERRMC=DB2ADMIN.USERS, DRIVER=3.62.56. I dont understand why I am getting this exception. There is nothing much in the stack trace as well. db2 share|improve this question edited Dec 10 '13 at 21:22 karthikr 52.1k1084105 asked Dec 10 '13 at 21:21 sachin jain 4819 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote The SQLCODE in your message is what tells you the actual error message. -204 is the error you are looking for. If you cross-reference the Information Center article about -204, you will see the following message: name is an undefined name. And if you look back at your exception, you see name = DB2ADMIN.USERS (the SQLERRMC field). My guess is that you aren't finding anything because you forgot to append a Schema to your table (the DB2ADMIN part was assumed in the error message because that's your login name). share|improve this answer answered Dec 10 '13 at 22:42 bhamby 10.8k1647 I actually resolved the issue.
