Erro Debootstrap Debian
Date Oct 2009 Beans 2 Installation fails at 'Install the base system.' Debootstrap error I'm installing Desktop 10.04 with the Alternate CD, due to a RAID1 requirement. Things go fine until the base system is being installed--just after the partitioning. Then I get a lot of Debootstrap warnings that file://cdrom/pool/main/... was corrupt, then "Warning: Couldn't download package ..." There must have been a hundred or more packages that wouldn't load. This is my third try, with two different verified-for-integrity multiple-times CDs. The second and third try I checked both CDs for integrity prior to the installation attempt. (I switched to another CD after the second failure). Results were the same for all three attempts. The partitioning has a RAID1 and several ext4 and ext2 partitions as well as a swap partition on each of the two drives. Is ext4 solid? I've had previous troubles with trying to install this machine, but this is earlier in the process. (Previous trouble was the system's not finding /boot/grub and dumping me to a grub-rescue> prompt. I didn't follow up on the rescue because I couldn't find the /boot partition. Turned out the grub directory was in /. /boot was missing--maybe because I put it

It happens when the user is trying to perform an installation without a working cdrom. In my case, I mounted another partition containing the xubuntu iso, and then used the loop device to mount that iso as /cdrom Mounting /cdrom one's self appears to omit some critical step; apparently the release codename is decided when the cdrom is mounted by the installer. Installation hits a brick wall at the "Install Base System" step because of the fatal "Failed to determine codename for the release" error. ljp37 (finite-automaton) wrote on 2007-07-01: #3 I think I've found a workaround for this. G7. Trying several times, and failing with the same message almost every time: Debootstrap Error Some times saying it was not a Debian Install CD-ROM. One user suggested that UNetbootin should be avoided when using http://soltveit.org/debian-debootstrap-error/ bootable install USB. Or else you would end up with Debian Debootstrap Error. UNetbootin have worked just fine in the past, so I figured it should work fine this time too. However I have also https://forums.untangle.com/installation/12422-debootstrap-error-failed-determine-codename.html installed Debian 8 in past with out any problems. But never on my "new" server. I almost went to the drastically step and downloaded Ubuntu. Just almost 😉 However another user suggested that the debootstrap error CD-Rom was not mounted. And that could be solved directly from the installer. Here is how you do it. When the message appears, wither Debian Debootstrap Error or not valid CD-rom. Hit Alt + F2 and then confirm with . Type: mount /dev/sdc1 /cdrom Hit Alt + F1 to return to the installer. You should now be able to continue you Debian install. This took me a while to debootstrap error failed get past, so please enjoy! To download the latest Debian, always see their website at https://www.debian.org Happy installing! I'm using this method from the Untangle Wiki: Installing_Untangle_from_a_USB_Flash_Disk Everything works fine until the installation gets to the step titled "Install the base system". Then, it goes: Debootstrap Error Failed to determine the codename for the release. I skipped down to "Check the CD-ROM(s) integrity" and it passed the test. I Googled this problem and see other ideas for Ubuntu and Debian, but nothing for Untangle. The solutions seem to involve specifying a Debian network mirror; I'm scared to try it as I still have scars from the time I edited an apt-sources file and had Debian do a hostile takeover of the system. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Karlin High 10-28-2009,09:07 PM #2 sky-knight Join Date Apr 2008 Location Phoenix, AZ Posts 20,479 I think that error means the installer doesn't like your USB stick. However, it was fixable. My USB flash drive is an IOCELL Castella, which came with 2 partitions. The first one was disguised as a CD drive, and contained their special backup/sync/whatever software. (Just be a USB drive, OK?) Since it looks like a CD drive, my partiti
