about scale inaccuracies. mav320Nov 10 2011 14:03Member postsSend message Quote | Reply I'm trying to find maintenance calories right now. My scale weighs me anywhere from 111-113 every morning. But when I put 10 lbs. weights on the scale, it often reads it as weighing anywhere from 9.4-9.6 ounces. So I'm wondering-- Is the margin of error on my scale a percentage or just .4-.6 pounds? Obviously if it's a percentage I weigh quite error margin calculator more than I thought I did. It's a digital scale, a black Taylor lithium if anyone is familiar with that. I want an accurate reading so I can track my maintenance without gaining...and if the scale is off, I may want to lose a bit more. 5 Replies (last) ?shane_paladinNov 10 2011 15:09Member postsSend message #1 Quote | Reply I have checked my Tanita scale a few times by holding a 25 pound weight. Then I weigh not holding it. It has been quite accurate. 1) I would suggest holding the 10 pound weight and weighing, and then weighing without holding it. I think only putting 10 pounds by itself on the scale may not allow it to give an accurate weigh-in at that low amount. 2) Also, find a relative, friend, gym, local store, local gym, and/or store and weigh on a few other scales, as soon as you can after weighing on yours. 3) You might try finding things that you know their accurate weights of and hold them while you weigh. I would think that the margin of error would be a percentage. Overall, I don't think you should worry about it. I doubt if you need to lose any more. Just trust your scale; it will be close enough. Good luck! chickey_soupchickey_soupNov 10 2011 15:25Member postsMember groups
