Control Panel 2. Sounds & Audio Devices icon (or MultiMedia Icon) 3. Audio tab 4. in 'Sound playback' make sure the 'Default device:' drop-down box correctly reflects your soundcard Although it's not necessary, close down Winamp, Windows and reboot the computer after making any of the above changes. No dice? Make sure the sound drivers and/or DirectX are up to date. Still no dice? Please post a reply with system specs. After all said and done tried to listen to music the other day. I get a "bad direct sound driver directsound driver please install proper drivers or select another device in config error code 88780078". now I uninstalled winamp and reinstalled it & updated it = no fix. I went out and bought a new sound card, still installed it = no fix. uninstalled my built in sound card and updated and reinstalled it = no fix. Any clue how I can fix this myself. thanks in advance Logged DaveLembkeProdigy Inventor of the Magna-Broom 3000 =)Thanked: 469 Certifications: List Computer: Specs Experience: bad directsound driver Expert OS: Windows 7 Re: Bad Direct Sound driver??? = No sound « Reply #1 on: January 06, 2009, 11:22:17 AM » In Hardware Manager, does it show a sound device or devices present if so what specs?
