I'd reset the console, take the disc in and out, repeat, etc. It was all a hassle. I don't know why they never made a USB-based GameShark instead! You know, like the original parallel port GameShark on the PS1.Anyway, I just had an idea. Maybe if there was some way to burn it to a better disc, like a DVD, the PS2 might struggle less to http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/915821-playstation-2/68116676 read it. I don't know, though. My PS2 can't read CD-RW's, and can't play DVD movies anymore (though the games work perfectly). I have one of the older models, and I've often thought about buying a PS2 slim, but I heard they have their own share of problems.User Info: Atomos199Atomos199 3 years ago#2I've had 2 PS2 slims so far and no problems with any of my discs, GS or not. I have a GS for PS1 games that works on the PS2, and ARMAX. However, the original PS2 AR disc appears to be locked out from the slim consoles, could never get it to load.I never gained supreme ulti-complete status. I projected my mind ca. 3 years into the future and realized it was going to be a waste of time.~ bastardpoetryUser Info: bungiefanbungiefan 3 years ago#3PS2 can't boot to USB, so they coudln't make a USB-based device. Parallel port was removed from the PS1 because it was only used for devices like that in the end. Memory cards are bootable, only earlier system models, but the exploit was only discovered late in the life of the console, known as FreeMCBoot. There are ways to run Code Breaker off of the memory car
4 Oh no, another disc read check error thread. Discussion in 'Gran Turismo 4' started by Hyst, Feb 10, 2009. Hyst Feb 10, 2009 #1 Right, I'll keep this short and sweet, any help is appreciated, I searched and found nothing useful. My PS2 https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/oh-no-another-disc-read-check-error-thread.114390/ is a slim, version SCPH-75001. I have owned 2 copies of GT4 in the past two years, both bought new and worked flawlessly. The first time I had a disc read error (i.e. the disc was not recognized by the console) http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3285 I took a Q-tip to the lens and it worked fine. Today I bought a used copy of GT4 from EBGames, and I was assured that it had been tested. And so, I took it home, and an hour later here disc read I am, and it's not working. I've tried Turning the PS2 upside down Turning the PS2 onto it's side Taken a Q-tip and cleaned the lens Taken a Q-tip and cleaned the entire inside of the disc tray All methods that have worked in the past for other games/movies but nothings worked here. Any idea how to fix this? Any cheap ways I can clean my disc with household products. Will I need to open up my PS2 and perform a little disc read error surgery? Something that might make a difference - I've heard that using Gamesharks and ARMax's can screw up the laser alignment, and it so happens I used an ARMax disc today already. Can anyone help me? Parnelli Bone Premium Columbia, MD. PSN:Parnelli_Bones Feb 10, 2009 #2 Have a look at the thread that was just started last nite...on this very subject! It's like 3 or 4 threads below this one. My theory? YOu've got a used game. So did i at first. Even tho it looks okay, there may be minor scratches & abberations on the disc surface that's screwing everything up. My used copy wound up doing the same thing... ...return the used copy and see if you can get a new one. That's what worked for me. Disc cleaners, q-tips, putting the PS2 slim on its side, dropping my console, etc did NOT work. Hyst Feb 10, 2009 #3 Thanks, I'll have a look. But now my PS2 won't read any games . Might be time for a new system? I-ROC PSN:trappinfrank Feb 11, 2009 #4 Fats are much better IMO. I've had two slims for a year, and one fat for like, 4 or 5. Sniffs PSN:we're waiting for the PS4 Feb 11, 2009 #5 a little tip from Gameshark themselves gameshark disks are burned over unsold or unused games (try sticking a vid game disk in your computer and looking at the files for fun)
