Well first off before you go on crazy rampage and crack it open or buy a new ps2 do 3 simple things:Most of the time this problem is due to dirty disk, it is amazing that some disk can work perfectly with thousands ps2 disc read error clicking sound of scratches and smudges, but somthing as little as a finger print or some dust can bring up that awful disk error. *some tips on cleaning disk* - first of all use a clean cloth(duh  )preferably a disk cleaning cloth. -clean from the inside out instraight lines. -be carful what you clean with best stick to retail cleaners for cds (i use windex but its not recomended) -the most important thing is to clean softly do not rub because you can kind of wax the cd if you rub too hard. -the safest path is just to go buy a cd cleaner at walmart If that does not work then a simple solution is to turn the PlayStation on its left side. Trust me i know it sounds stupid but it works wonders:P. *make sure you have it prorerly suported the last thing you need is your ps2 to take a dive of the game table.*If those 2 dont work then you could try cleaning you lens by using a cleaning disk lik

If you have, I'll bet the first time you saw one was on the 31st day you've had it, after the Sony 30-day warranty expired. If you're real lucky, your PS2 might last two or even three years; eventually this error will hunt down your http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2003/11/ps2-repair-guide/ PS2 and settle down there. If it only affects you some of the time ? you might be able to play some DVD movies, but your favorite one never loads, or you can only play PSone games and not silver-colored PS2 games ? then chances are it's not a serious error and only requires minor adjustments to your PS2. Since it is out of warranty, there's little risk in opening it up and trying to fix it yourself before paying to send it back to Sony's repair center. The following guide shows you how to get the PS2 open, clean it out, make your adjustments, and put it back together without any hassles. Before we begin, I'd just like to say that if your PS2 is under warranty, get this taken care of by Sony. It's not worth voiding your warranty if you can survive without it for a week or so. If your PS2 can't read anything at all, cross your fingers and read on, but you may have a more serious issue than we can fix. I am using a model SCPH-30001 Playstation 2, with a U serial nu
6 Comments Filed Under: Gaming Tagged: ps2 Last night me and my girlfriend were going to face off in Guitar Hero. However, my PS2 just froze while trying http://www.technipages.com/ps2-fix-disc-read-error to read the disc. After about 4 minutes it said Disc Read Error. It had been getting this way for a while. It would take forever to read the game disc and https://mattread.com/ps2-disc-read-error-fix it would sometimes sit forever at the Browser/System Configuration screen. The unit is 8 years old so I would imagine some filth has built up on the disc reading laser lens inside disc read of it. I decided to clean it out to fix this problem. Here's how it's done: Supplies: Cotton swab Small (micro) Phillips head screwdriver Standard Phillips head screwdriver Flat head screwdriver Canned air (optional) 1. Remove all peripherals from the Playstation 2. Discs, memory cards, controllers and modems. 2. Flip the unit on it's top. 4 rubber feet and 4 square plastic coverings need to disc read error be removed from the bottom of the unit. 3. Remove the coverings using a flat head screwdriver. Then remove all of the screws using the standard Phillips screwdriver. 4. Flip the PS2 back on it's right side. Remove the cover carefully, angling it down toward the front of the unit and flipping it over. Careful, there is a ribbon cable attached on the front side. 5. After the cover is removed, the top of the disc drive is revealed. The top of it must be removed with a small screw driver. Remove the 4 screws to it. 6. Carefully remove the top to the disc drive, and the inside is exposed along with the disc reading lens. 7. Using a damp cotton swab, gently clean the disc reading laser lens. 8. To finish things off you may want to use some canned air to clean out other parts inside of the unit. Put the PS2 back together and it will read discs just like it did when you first purchased it. Let me know how it goes for you This guide will walk you through the process of repairing a malfunctioning Playstation 2 or one that gives you Disc Read Errors (called "DRE" from here on). I have tested this process on two Playstation 2s now and it completely fixed the errors both were experiencing.
