did the exact some thing. So i looked up solutions for it but could only find solutions for the PS2. I read them and it said to put the PS2 console vertical ways. So i decided to try that with my XBox putting the disc slot on the top and power on bottom and i havent had the disc read error problem since. So if you set your XBox horizontal ways its time to try putting it vertical ways with the disc slot on top and power button on bottom.User Info: utfiuygsghutfiuygsgh 8 years ago#2Bizarrely my friends that have had RROD had theirs in Horizontal.Mine, always Vertical... The system simply will not read the disc at all. I've managed to get it to run once in the entire time http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?t=182791 I've owned the disc. Meanwhile, other, newer PS2s have no problem with it at all. It was brought to my attention again this weekend when I went to Gateway (a gaming convention), and found that a friend's Worms Forts wouldn't play on my system either - and I noticed that it, too, has a purple read surface. Is there some sort of firmware upgrade that I can get and install on my PS2 to be able to play these? It's really annoying... I'm only asking because my Search-Fu is weak, and all I'm getting are hits for PS3 firmware updates and "hack" updates for the PS2. I'm a little late to the party...but I just got a PS2 for $20 at a thrift store, and was disappointed to see the Disc Read Error when I tried to play a game. DVDs and CDs got the same error. I followed the instructions here, and turning the little white gear worked!
I marked the gear's current position with a Sharpie, and turned the gear by "clicks". The gear clicks when turned, so I turned it 3 clicks, tested, didn't work. Turned another 3 clicks, tested, etc. Took a few tries, but eventually it started reading discs!

I've exchanged the game with the store, still no go. I have more than 50 games and about 200 DVDs that play just fine in my PS2, anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Quote 20th Jun 2005,08:01 #2 rizzocat View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message New Player Join Date Jun 2005 Posts 2 Disc not read by PS2 I bought my son the Lego Star Wars game and we had the original PS2 and it would say that it couldn't read the disc either. We went to a game store and they said that some of the PS2's couldn't read it so we tried it on my son's friend's PS2 console (the flat one) and it worked perfectly. So we went to trade my son's console for the newest PS2 and now it does read it. But now we are having the problem that when my son got to Episode III Chapter 5 the game freezes on him. So now we are trying to get that resolved, we have exchanged the game 2 times and still same problem. So if you have a friend or know someone who has a PS2 the newer one (flat console) have them try your game and then you will know if it's the game or your console that can't read the disc. I was told that the older PS2's can't read the
