This tutorial will http://hubpages.com/games-hobbies/How-to-fix-the-PS3-Disk-read-error teach you how to fix your PS3 if it won't read discs. How To Fix Your PS3 Disc Reader It may seem obvious, but one of the most common reasons for a console's inability to read a disc is disc damage. Check both sides of your disc to make sure that it is not scratched or damaged, and clean your disc carefully using a microfiber cloth. Once done, reinsert your disc http://ccm.net/faq/15808-ps3-won-t-read-games-or-discs into the console and attempt to launch it again. Another common problem with disc recognition is having your console set to an alternate region. Different disc formats may not be recognized by your PS3. Launch your PlayStation 3, and head to Settings > System Settings > Default Settings. Verify that your region is correctly set and that it is compatible with the disc that you're trying to play. If the above methods don't work, you can also try troubleshooting your device. Remove any disk from the drive, and put the device in standby mode. A red LED light will indicate the state of your device. Next, press and hold the On/Off button until you hear two beeps, followed by a double-beep. If you do not hear a double-beep, repeat the process. If done correctly, your device should launch to a menu. Choose the third option, and follow the procedure to reset your device. Please read all of it before commenting.First I will start with other potential tests that I have tried:First one was to reflash the ps3 by updating to the fw 3.15 again through the recovery method. That caused the game to show up immediately after updating the system again. To see if this test worked disc read I turned the ps3 off over night. The next morning, no luck. The game would not show up in the xmb.Second test was to install linux ubuntu and see if it showed up there. Yes, this test showed that it could read the blu ray game, but I couldn't play it. So this didn't fix it, but showed my drive was semi-working still. So anyway after trying multiple attempts to get a game to load through various methods, I finally was able to get a game to load. Once I disc read error finally get a game to load I would leave my ps3 on all day for several days. I did this because I didn't need to try and get the ps3 to the read disc if I left it on since it would always read if it reads once.So the other night I was writing a paper for school and needed to save the paper to my usb flash drive. I apparently left my flash drive in the ps3 so I removed to save my paper to it. After I finished the paper, I wanted to play MW2. However, this time I got a new error that I have not seen before. The ps3 said disc read error 800 etc. I never got this error before since I could never click on the disc icon because it didn't show up. So I thought that weird and retraced my steps of what I did that might have caused it. The only thing that I did differently was that I removed the usb flash drive. So I plugged that back in and guess what? I was able to play MW2.So those of you that get this error, try sticking in a usb flash drive and see if it goes away. I haven't had problems since I realized this fix.Now back on to the previous tests. Why did test one work once and then it didn't work? Well, to update the system I had to stick in the usb drive. I left it in until the game loaded and removed when I turned off the ps3. That
