last finished clip to export from FCP, which is 60min long. Based on prior exports, this final cut pro out of disk space clip should use approx 120GB. Somewhere near the end of the export, FCP bails out and gives me an error message saying: Error - how to clear disk space on final cut pro out of disk space. The target disk has plenty of room. Is there some place else FCP could be writing to that would cause this error?Phil imac g5, Mac OS X (10.4.10) Posted on Dec 13, 2007 3:25 PM

I'm exporting to a LaCie hard drive (external) which is pre-formatted for MACs, so I haven't had any issues with that. The LA Cie actually took the whole original film clip (about 280GB),but I had to break that into smaller chunks for output to dvd (it was close, but IDVD said I couldn't put it on a dual layer dvd without reducing quality). So, after I trashed the original output of 320GB, I exported two 60 minute files no problem; on the third 60 minute file---that's when I got the error message.Phil Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by David Harbsmeier,★Helpful David Harbsmeier Dec 13, 2007 6:57 PM in response to starinova Level 7 (30,024 points) Dec 13, 2007 6:57 PM in response to starinova How much free space is left on your boot drive? So 5 hours is about 18,000 seconds, so you are looking at a capture of about 72000MB, 72G so you should be fine.. Are you sure the Capture Scratch disk is set properly? Sometimes it's set to the wrong drive you want to capture to. Check Preferences if you are using FCP, if you are using FCPX it might be somewhere else, not sure how you set capture disks in FCPX.. share|improve this answer answered Mar 16 '12 at 17:

Help? Submitted: 6 years ago. Category:Mac Share this conversation Expert: Ruben G. replied6 years ago. Hello there,The 'out of disk space message' you're getting is self explanatory...you're out of disk space in the drive you're trying to export your video to. If you've recently delete files to make room, make sure you also empty your trash bin as those files may sit in there taking up space even though you have deleted them. If you're going to be working with video files in the future, I would suggest getting an external hard drive to store your video files. Also, some export settings may increase the size of your file so make sure that you are calculating the space needed per the compression or format you're selecting. Here's a great online calculator to help you determine how much space you need: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/footage_calc.htm Ask Your Own Mac Question Customer: replied6 years ago. OK I have an external hard drive, an empty verbatim 500 gigs, and it says you can use it on PC or Mac. I have a Mac, and it will not let me export to it. Is that because my file is too large and I have to format it or something? If yes, how do I format it? Expert: Ruben G. replied6 years ago. I don't think you can use up 500 gigs for exporting one file. It does sound like you need to format your drive to work with your Mac. I recommended running Disk Utility in Mac to format your drive, you
