This discussion is locked starinova Level 1 (0 points) Q: Error - Out of Disk Space HiI'm exporting an FCP file using Apple Conversion. Target drive has 225GB left on it. I have one last finished clip to export from FCP, how to clear disk space on final cut pro which is 60min long. Based on prior exports, this clip should use approx 120GB. Somewhere near the final cut pro not enough disk space end of the export, FCP bails out and gives me an error message saying: Error - out of disk space. The target disk has plenty of room. Is there some place else FCP could be writing to that would cause this error?Phil imac g5, Mac OS X (10.4.10) Posted on Dec 13, 2007 3:25 PM I have this question too Close Q: Error - Out of Disk Space All replies Helpful answers by startchoppin, startchoppin Dec 13, 2007 3:37 PM in response to starinova Level 1 (5 points) Dec 13, 2007 3:37 PM in response to starinova have seen this problem before, can you save it onto another drive, are you saving it to an external hard drive?how is this drive formatted? do you need to use quicktime conversion?can you export as a fcp quicktime reference movie or self contained and use compressor to convert it to the file you want?sorry i dont have an answer but would like to know how you solved itcheerssimon Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by starinova, starinova Dec 13, 2007 3:59 PM in response to startchoppin Level 1 (0 points) Dec 13, 2007 3:59 PM in response to startchoppin Hi-To Simon. I'm exporting to a LaCie hard drive (external) which is pre-formatted for MACs, so I haven't had any issues with that. The LA Cie actually took the whole original film clip (about 280GB),but I had to break that into smaller chunks for output to dvd (it was close, but IDVD said I couldn't put it on a dual layer dvd without reducing quality). So, after I trashed the original output of 320GB, I exported two 60 minute files no problem; on the third 60 minute file---that's when I got the error message.Phil Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by David Harbsmeier,★Helpful David Harbsmeier Dec 13, 2007 6:57 PM in response to starinova Level 7 (30,024 points) Dec 13, 2007 6:57 PM in response to starinova How much free space is left on your boot drive? I'm below 10% on the boot drive. I tried two different external drives and got the same er
files using the Render Manager. Last time we did this at FCP.co towers we had loads of files from old projects and managed to free quite a lot of space up. The drive I am exporting to contains final cut pro 5 gigs free space, and I am just exporting a simple capture of 44 minutes in length.... Any ideas? Thanks so much. Jennifer Reply Quote grafixjoe Re: Disk space error during FCP export August 23, 2004 10:02AM Hi Jenn, 1 Gigabyte of storage holds about 4 minutes 37 seconds of DV, that would make your file over 10 gigs - which does not fit on 5 gigs of free space. It has one of the least helpful warning dialogs and is frustratingly difficult to solve. However, I've learned that when a General Error occurs it is almost always related to a bad clip, or a bad render file, in your sequence. Maybe not always, but this should be the first place to check.General Errors most often relate to render problems; either when you are rendering directly during editing, or rendering as part of an export. While there isn't a fast way to fix this, it can be fixed. Before you attempt to fix a General Error, it doesn't hurt to reset your system by doing a Safe Boot.NOTE: Here's an article that explains how to do a Safe Boot: Trouble-Shoot in Five StepsTHINGS TO CHECK1. While Final Cut SHOULD be able to work with video of different frame rates, it can often have problems when a clip with a faster frame rate (say, 30 fps) is put into a slower sequence (say, 23.98 fps). Disable clips with different frame rates and see if the General Error goes away when you render.NOTE: To disable a clip, select it and type Control+B. A clip changes color when it is disabled.2. It is possible that a specific render file became corrupted. This isn't your fault, every so often it just happens. Delete all render files and see if the error goes away.NOTE: To delete all render files associated with a track, turn off the green visibility light, located in the track header on the left of the Timeline, then turn it back on. This is just a quick click - click. If you don't turn the visibility light back on, all clips in that track become invisible.3. Sometimes clips downloaded from stock image houses are corrupted during the transfer. Disable any stock shots (select the clip and type Control+B) and re-render.4. If these first three suggestions don't work, you will need to get a bit more methodical by rendering your project in sections until you finally isolate the clip(s) that is causing a problem. To render just a portion of your sequence, select roughly 10% of your clips and render. If that works, SAVE YOUR PROJECT, then render the next 10%. (Sa
