HI, If you do a google search for DLNA 501 PS3 you'll see that error 501 seems to be Sony's "catch all" error for DLNA so its not caused by 1 thing, but any number of things that Sony are yet to define specific error codes for. This is also why is keeps coming up and never appears to be fixed, as there is no 1 fix for it and what does fix it for some, doesn't for others. It also happens on any DLNA server, n

I just bought my PS3 over the weekend, and ever since I hooked it up, I keep getting this error message:Media Server Error: DLNA Protocol Error (501) has occurredFrom what I've gathered by googling the error message, it would appear that https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/45070/plex-on-ps3-dlna-protocol-error-501 this is something related to Windows Media Center, but I haven't even used Media Center with the PS3 yet. Also, when doing an Internet Connection test on my PS3, it says "UPnP: Failed" (even though I've set UPnP to "enable"), and my NAT type keeps saying 3 when I believe I want it at 2.Any ideas or suggestions? professorabsMember Since: March 24, 2008Posts: 25professorabsFollowForum Posts: 25Followed by: 0Reviews: 0 http://www.gamespot.com/forums/playstation-nation-1000002/dlna-error-501-26259309/ Stacks: 0Forum Karma: 0#2 Posted by professorabs (25 posts) - 8 years, 7 months agoI just read your posting...I just hooked up my PS3 and keep getting the same damn error message...did you ever resolve it??Thanks!!! big_boss4lifeMember Since: December 4, 2006Posts: 2633big_boss4lifeFollowForum Posts: 2633Followed by: 0Reviews: 1 Stacks: 0Forum Karma: 0#3 Posted by big_boss4life (2633 posts) - 8 years, 7 months agohooked it up how?ethernet cable? or wireless`? professorabsMember Since: March 24, 2008Posts: 25professorabsFollowForum Posts: 25Followed by: 0Reviews: 0 Stacks: 0Forum Karma: 0#4 Posted by professorabs (25 posts) - 8 years, 7 months agoI'm hooked up via Linksys wireless.....music woks fine (for now)......no vids.....and, keeps popping the message: DLNA protocol error (501) has occurred....also, .a network error has occurred 8071053dSometimes even saying: Disconnected from the media server...however, I"m still able to gain internet access....I figure it is just a setting on my desktop...I enabled sharing, etc on Windows Media Player.......kinda at a loss! jspot0Member Since: November 23, 2005Posts: 25jspot0FollowForum Posts: 25Followed by: 0Reviews: 0 Stacks: 0Forum Karma: 0#5 Posted by jspot0 (25 posts) - 8 years, 1 month agoI have the same problem.I use Vista on my Desktop. At first, I used Media player 11 as a media server. Comment Filed Under: Gaming Tagged: ps3 A friend of mine purchased a PlayStation 3 and connected it to his wireless Linksys router. Whenever he downloaded updates to games, it would start the download then http://www.technipages.com/ps3-dlna-protocol-error-2101-fix freeze at about 32 percent. At other times it would throw an error saying http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6420 DNLA Protocol Error 2101. We could access the PlayStation Store without a problem though. After connecting the PS3 directly to the cable modem, the PS3 worked fine. So we then knew the problem had to be with the Linksys router configuration. After checking out the router settings, we figured out that UPnP was enabled. dlna protocol The UPnP feature is supposed to automatically grant permission to devices to access needed network resources. It doesn't always play well with certain devices though. So we disabled UPnP with these steps: Login to the Linksys router's admin panel. You can usually get there by opening a web browser and going to "http://192.168.1.1" (usually this is the IP address used, but it may be different depending on your configuration) dlna protocol error in a web browser. Go to "Connectivity" in the left pane. Click the "Administration" tab. Uncheck "UPnP" to disable it. Select "OK", and you're done. If you have a router from a different brand, check the user guide for information on how to disable this feature. As it stands I get an Media Server Error: DLNA Protocol Error 501 has occurred on the PS3 and it tells me that access to the media server has not been allowed when I try to access the MSS.When I try to connect to the MCE2005 PC I get told the system name has not been registered.I do have my MSS Guest user account disabled if that makes any difference on the WHS side of things?Talking of Guest account - what else may be affected by this account being disabled? Thanks & regards,-=Glyn=- Top Attention Guest: Remove this ad by Registering with the MediaSmartServer.net Forums.
