Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the error. I haven't found any good info on this error and it doesn't tell us anything whatsoever; here is Microsoft's very descriptive resolution: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc735674(v=ws.10).aspx There is a lot of speculation out there like "You should always point to another DNS server first not self, don't disable IPV6, and possibly slow links in VPN/MPLS connected sites". I'd like to try and demystify what is going on here, or at least get some verbose logging somewhere to find out what the error is referring to. I haven't seen this issue affect us negatively until yesterday when a whole site couldn't resolve a URL/hostame served by a conditional forwarder. Saw WAY too many 4015 errors so just restarted the service and it went away and the hostname res

We haven't dns error 4015 raised any functional levels. The 2003 DC was powered down (it hadn't been demoted yet, but all the FSMOs are on the 2008R2 DC) and the 2008R2 was then rebooted. We got the following error in the event log on the 2008R2 upon reboot (note the 2003DC was still offline). For sake of the question, Server01 = Server 2003 Box - Primary DNS itself, secondary Server02 Server02 = Server 2008R2 (FSMOs) - Primary DNS itself, Secondary Server 01 The DNS server timed out attempting an Active Directory service operation on DC=server02,DC=domain.local,cn=MicrosoftDNS,DC=DomainDnsZones,DC=domain,DC=local. Check Active Directory to see that it is functioning properly. The event data contains the error. This required a restart of the DNS server and it started working again (at this point the 2003 DC was booting back up). Is this just because it was unable to speak to the other DC (and thus it's replication partner) or is there more at fault here? domain-name-system active-directory windows-server-2008-r2 domain-controller netlogon share|improve this question edited Aug 5 '13 at 19:14 a
seems to be running well but have notice you keep getting a repeating DNS Error like this: Event ID: 4015 Source: DNS-Server-Service Details: "The DNS server has encountered a critical error from Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contain the error." All do you need to do is: Setting a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2012 Domain Controller as a Global Catalog. Transferring FSMO Roles in Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2012. For fix that, click in the below link and do the step 4 and 5. http://systemadministratorrecipes.blogspot.com/2012/06/migrating-active-directory-domain.html Now you Active Directory is functioning properly, and the DNS error is fixed :) Posted by Osmani Urquiza at 2:16 PM Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest No comments: Post a Comment Newer Post Older Post Home Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom) About Me Osmani Urquiza View my complete profile Blog Archive ► 2014 (3) ► November (3) ▼ 2013 (16) ► September (1) ► August (2) ► June (3) ► May (2) ▼ March (5) Disable USB Port in a Windows Operating System Com...
