Top DNS Navigation Error - Help anyone? by michjoh » Wed, 15 Oct 2003 22:37:04 This error makes it appear that you are having a DNS name resolution problem. When in a broken state, how to fix dns error on mobile phone open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns". Try accessing the page again. Does this work? If so, it appears that something is return negative responses to your DNS queries. The DNS client on Windows 2000 caches this information for up to 15 minutes. Disabling the caching of negative responses may help. To do this on a Windows 2000 pro box, open Regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters. Set the value for NegativeCacheTime to fix dns error 80710102 "0". Also set the value NegativeSOACacheTime to "0" as well. If either of these values does not exist, you will need to create them. To do this, right click on the right pane and choose New>DWORD Value. If this helps, it's really only masking another problem. You may need to investigate the DNS servers your client is pointing to. These DNS servers may be either returning incorrect information or not able to resolve the names themselves. If these servers are under your control, then install Network Monitor on them and start some traces. When a DNS failure occurs, the traces may shed some light as to the real cultprit. posts by 2 users Latest reply from John Flatness Iwe Posted 3 years ago I hope I can describe this well: We have officially connected the DNS of our server to http://www.verhalenbank.nl. The only problem now is that when Omeka detects that there is no longer a /vb/ (subdirectory in which the omeka instance is located) in the links of the navigation settings, the default settings are used. This scrambles up the public navigation. Also, a manually added site will not be found through the new URL. I think this is due to the static nature of the links once they are saved in the settings. This makes it impossible for modified Omeka instances to be accessed from multiple domains. John Flatness (Omeka Dev Team) Posted 3 years ago I get the situation you're describing, but I'm not sure of the consequences you're seeing. Is there an error, do the pages lose their ordering, or does something else happen? Iwe Posted 3 years ago I don't see an error anywhere. JWhen I access our website from another domain, the navigation refers back to the default settings. It does show the manually added sites, but the link is broken. It also shows the default links that I deselected to be shown. When I set the menu values In the admin site of our server (x.x.x.x/vb/admin), the navigation is scrambled on http://www.verhalenbank.nl. When I set them on the admin when accessed through http://www.verhalenbank.nl/admin, the navigation is scrambled on x.x.x.x/vb/. This is because /vb/ is added to the links on one domain, while this is not the case on the other. I'm not sure if there is anything to be done though. For now we only access it through verhalenbank.nl. John Flatness (Omeka Dev Team) Posted 3 years ago Yeah, unfortunately I think this is just a restriction built into the way the Navigation component works, since it saves root-relative URLs, not Omeka-relative ones.
