When I try to apply it, I get following message: $ git apply --check my_pcc_branch.patch warning: src/main/java/.../AbstractedPanel.java has type 100644, expected 100755 error: patch failed: src/main/java/.../AbstractedPanel.java:13 error: src/main/java/.../AbstractedPanel.java: git apply ignore whitespace patch does not apply What does it mean? To this end, I'm pulling down their PR, run our uncrustify script over it to fix any style errors, and want to create a .patch file they can easily apply. However, it consistently breaks on some files. I do (git version 1.7.10.4 with core.autocrlf=input, core.filemode=false): $ git checkout pr-branch $ git log -1 (shows: commit http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14649605/git-apply-fails-mysteriously-how-do-i-troubleshoot-fix dbb8d3f) $ git status (nothing to commit, working directory clean) $
