I go File -> Import... -> Existing Projects into Workspace, choose the folder where the project is located and everything is imported - but the package names of the project don't seem to be what Eclipse expects. The package names all have a prefix: prefix.packagename1 prefix.packagename2 etc. But Eclipse expects src.prefix1.prefix.packagename1 src.prefix1.prefix.packagename2 etc. because the directory is src/prefix1/prefix/package1 I don't really want to mess around with external code. How do I tell Eclipse to eclipse editor does not contain a main type ignore the directory "src/prefix1"? It may be easiest to right-click on the src directory and select "Build Path / Remove from build path", then find the src/prefix1 directory, right click and select "Build Path / Use as source folder". share|improve this answer answered Oct 2 '11 at 19:35 Jon Skeet 902k48765477472 2 How do I undo whatever that just did? I clicked on "Build Path / Use as source folder" and nothing works anymore. Edit: The answer to my question is to go into "Configure Build Path" and remove the funky thing from the list that isn't src/ or gen/ –ArtOfWarfare Oct 14 '12 at 20:34 13 Note that Jon's suggestion works but might need a restart of eclipse. –Samik R Jan 22 '13 at 18:43 1 @SamikR wow... thank you. All my sources compile fine and the resulting application compiles fine. However, I keep getting an "red-x" error notification in the Package Explorer. All my sources in this source directory (too long for the snapshot) compile fine, none of the show the "red-x" error icon. Any suggestions on how http://stackoverflow.com/questions/225167/in-eclipse-what-can-cause-package-explorer-red-x-error-icon-when-all-java-sou to fix the problem would be highly appreciated. java eclipse share|improve this question edited Jun 28 '15 at 15:14 Alex 1,46632037 asked Oct 22 '08 at 10:28 Alfred B. You can go to the "Problems"-Tab (right next to console output) and see the error message, so maybe you can narrow it down that way. share|improve this answer answered Oct 22 '08 at 10:39 Jan Gressmann 3,89332424 6 I specifically get it when another non-Java component fails validation (a good example would be an XML file, like spring's or maven's). –Spencer Kormos Oct 22 '08 at 17:26 2 if you can see any problem in the problem view, that's apparent reason. I haven't yet seen any error with no apparent reason :) –nanda Sep 20 '10 at 14:01 Adding to jan-gressman 's answer. Sometimes when you look in the "Problems" tab , you will find the problem is extra files with an underscore in some folders e.g __duplicatefile.java . To fix this, rightclick on the project and select : Show In > Navigator .

However, I can compile my code on the command-line just fine and generate the necessary .class files. In Eclipse, it complains that The declared package "Devices" does not match the expected package "". What does this mean and how can I fix it? Sample code: package Devices; does not match public final class DevFrequency { public short messageID; public double frequency; public short converterID; public DevFrequency() { } public DevFrequency(short _messageID,double _frequency,short _converterID) { messageID = _messageID; frequency = _frequency; converterID = _converterID; } } The name of my project is DeviceDDS. java eclipse share|improve this question edited Feb 18 '13 at 12:52 Marcel Korpel 17.3k44669 asked Aug 9 '11 at 14:12 user195488 1 Is this class in the /src/Converters directory? –Jeremy Heiler Aug 9 '11 at 14:14 3 If you're going to change your question retrospectively (which seems pointless, to be honest) you need to be consistent about it - you haven't edited the first paragraph of the question. You've also made all the comments look odd. Why change everything, nearly a year and a half later? –Jon Skeet Jan 18 '13 at 13:47 add a comment| 15 Answers 15 active oldest votes up vote 32 down vote accepted Eclipse expects the declared package to match the directory hierarchy - so it's expecting your Java file to be in a directory called "Devices" under your source root. At the moment it looks like the file is directly in your source root. So create the appropriate directory

Eclipse is showing error icon on the android application, but I can't find any error anywhere inside the sub folders(sections). Because of this error, I can't run or debug the application. For me it was due to giving same ID to different TextViews, ListViews, GridViews or other type of user controls that are used in different XML files. You too will be having this issue.
