Receiving Error Number: 0x800CCC78 -- why? Posted on 15 January 2004 09:08 AM Question: Starting yesterday, I've been sporadically getting the following error when attempting to send email using my FQ hosted domain: The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was 'test@domain.com'. Subject 'Re: HELLO', Account: 'test', Server: 'domain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: error 0x800ccc78 '451 4.7.1 Please try again later', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 451, Error Number: 0x800CCC78 Well, it was sporadic... now it's completely not letting anything out. Can't send anything via my FQ account. Yes, I read the forums and know this may be a port 25 issue. So before I go looking like an idiot and tick off my ISP, AOL btw (which ought to make it nearly impossible to error 0x800ccc78 outlook reason with them if they just instituted a port 25 block), I wanted to see if you could confirm based on the error code above if this is a port 25 issue or not, especially since it reads server error and not a socket error which in my ignorance would be my expectation if it was a port 25 issue. Errggh.. nothing more frustrating than not being able to email people back. Answer: We're sorry to hear of your frustration. This sounds very similar to other reports we've received from AOL users. Rather than blocking port 25, their servers intercept the connection on that port, forcing your mail to send through their servers. To test this, please visit the following tutorial: Why can I receive email, but not send any? When you connect, if you see any reference to AOL (generally will be something-proxy.aol.com), they are intercepting the connection. (Note: All FutureQuest outgoing mail servers listen on ports 1025 and 587 in addition to and as alternative ports to port 25, and we also offer the secure option of using port 465 SMTP over SSL/SMTPS.) Otherwise, if you see something.futurequest.net, then this is not the issue. See the above guide for more information. Search FutureQuest Knowledgebase Help Desk Software by Kayako Resolve
