Hello, I am running SPSS 21.0.0.0, 64-bit, on Windows 7 Professional SP1. I have been incomplete (truncated) spss file running with this configuration for a while, including with use of Python Programmability extension. This morning I attempted to save a dataset, but received the error message below. A new file is

created, as previousfilename_1.sav, then _2, _3 etc with successive saves. Thinking that perhaps a new version of Java, installed this morning, was the issue, I removed it. No difference. So I have tried SPSS restart, computer restart, Java removal and machine restart. Nothing has changed that I can see. Error message is: >Error. Command name: SAVE >Incomplete (truncated) SPSS Statistics data file: X:\01 - PROJECTS\WA01-034 - WRAP - Alt Biz Models\Questionnaire\05 - Datasets - working folder\ABM_Wales_questions.sav (DATA1205) >Execution of this command stops. >Error # 1400. Command name: SAVE >Input error when reading a case. Any changes made to the working file since 27-JUN-2013 10:43:32 have been lost. The time now is 11:34:29. Thank you very much for any suggestions, orlando OrlandoHughes 270004MV47 10 Posts Re: Error # 1400 on SAVE 2013-06-27T15:47:23Z This is the accepted answer. This is the accepted answer. A slight update on this: I moved the data file from its folder on a network drive onto my desktop and opened it from there. This time it worked, and I have been working from the desktop since. Of course this is not an ideal scenario. However, I haven't checked whether I can move it back because I've been a bit busy. So, more testing to come. o JonPeck 270002VCWN 413 Posts Re: Error # 1400 on SAVE 2013-06-27T19:10:59Z This is the accepted answer. This is the accepted answer. Report Content as Inappropriate ♦ ♦ input error when reading a case I started work on my file this morning (a saved file I opened with GET FILE), tried first to do a simple "sort cases by XXXX" and got the following error message: >Error # 1400. Command name: sort cases by >Input error when reading a case. >This command not executed. Any changes made to the working file since 17-AUG-2007 15:19:58 have been lost. The time now is 09:55:49. 3:19 yesterday afternoon was last time I saved file. I get this error message if I try to sort by https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/forums/html/topic?id=5f3d17c3-8538-4dd6-8788-724de3f65567 any variable or create a new variable, or try to run frequencies - including part about all changes to working file having been lost since 15:19 on 8/17. I tried making copy of file and working from copy, moving file to my local drive from shared drive - same problem. I'm using V 14. The file was created using 14. It has about 178,000 cases. If there's a "bad http://spssx-discussion.1045642.n5.nabble.com/input-error-when-reading-a-case-td1077652.html case", how can I tell which one it is? I saw an old post in archives about this using N OF CASES as a diagnostic , but I'm not too sure how this works. I guess at worst I will open previous version of file before I made lots of transformations and just run all my syntax again... Command name: EXECUTE, Input error when reading a case. Any changes made to the working file since 12-OCT-2006 16:36:47 have been lost. The time now is 13:00:51." And this one when I tried error 1400 to run a frequency: "Command name: FREQUENCIES¬Input error when reading a case.¬This command not executed.¬" I worked in this dataset last week without any problems. This dataset has about 130,000 cases so without a hint I don't know how to find where the error is. It was created in SPSS error 1400 spss 11.5 and I'm currently using SPSS 14. Any help on this problem would be appreciated. -------------------- The error means some unrecoverable error was encountered. Since it says nothing about a physical error, it is probable the file has been modified in some way. It may have been copied incorrectly, or edited. Jonathan Fry SPSS Inc. [Morewiththissubject...]
were all fine, until I tried to do a crosstab and got the error: Error # 1400. Input Error when reading a case. I have searched the entire groupand but it seems that this might be a bug with SPSS. I don't manually ever change a case, so, it has to be an issue with SPSS. It may be caused by increasing the number of variables to a point where SPSS has a memory issue. Is it possible to identify the particular case, if any, that is causing this issue. SPSS bombs out with the message around case # 2.5 million. If I can identify the last processed case, that may give me a pointer. Thanks, Sanjay Top 1. Error # 1400. Command name: EXECUTE, Input error when reading a case. 2. Error # 1400. Command name: EXECUTE, Input error when reading a case. You're not alone in experiencing this problem, have had it with v14, along with a whole host of other errors, there doesn't seem to be any logical reason why it does it, just seems to be another bug in 14. You can try reporting it to SPSS, but son't hold your breath as they're not really interested in fixing existing versions, they tend to just fob you off with the fact that 15 will be out soon 3.
