(Trina_Smiley) May 8, 2007 9:51 AM I hope you all haven't already answered this question. I'd feel really stupid if https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/315352 you did because I couldn't find it anywhere. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. It came already installed. I love/hate it and Bill Gates too, although that last bit isn't really important. Anyway, I have downloaded the trial version of Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 and am having a devil of a time installing it. I followed the "UNIVERSAL VISTA HELP GUIDE FOR INSTALLS AND CONFIGURATION OF ACROBAT 8 " https://forums.adobe.com/thread/303005 by Anthony Kraus, and while I did get farther with the installation, I am hung up with the following error: Error 1606 Could not access network location\Startup Well, neither could I. I can't even find it let alone access it! Where is it? What is it? This will eventually drive me crazy if I can't get past it. Is there anyone who can help me? thank you so much in advance....... Could not access network location %SystemDrive%\inetpub\wwwroot\ while installing on IIS7 up vote 8 down vote favorite I'm trying to port our software installer which currently supports Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 to a Windows 2008 environment. Currently, the installer could not access gets an error which reads "Error 1606. Could not access network location %SystemDrive%\inetpub\wwwroot." %SystemDrive% is without a doubt C:\, and C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ has the correct accessibility. It is interesting that if I hardcode the path in the following keys in the registry to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\, without using the environment variable, the installer works correctly. • HKLM/Software/Wow6432Node/Microsoft/InetStp/PathWWWRoot • KHLM/Software/Microsoft/InetStp/PathWWWRoot. This seems like a very poor hack. I do not want to tell our clients that they need to hack their registry before they will be able to install our product. Another option is to change the registry behind the scenes, do our install, and revert the registry keys to their original values at the end of the install, but obviously I don't like this solution either. I find it hard to believe that Microsoft would have done this without reason, so there must be an alternate approach to get these installers to work without modifying the registry. Any tips appreciated. installer windows-server-2008 share|improve this question edited Aug

I've read through the knowledge base article about this problem and have verified all the registry entries detailed in this table. Everything looks to be correct. I have even installed and run the "Fix it for me" package linked on the same page, but it seems to have no effect. I have also both run the installer as administrator and logged off and back on using an administrator account. I get the exact same error in all cases. Also, the %APPDATA% variable seems to be set fine via a command prompt. If I run cd %APPDATA%\. it changes me into the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming directory as expected. I should also mention that an older version of Quicken (2004) was previously installed on this machine. I ran the uninstaller but it did not complete successfully. I tried manually cleaning out the registry after the failed uninstall, but I'm wondering if there is a remnant of the previous version still lurking which is causing these issues
