Why I Cannot Uninstall Microsoft Office XP Due to Error 1606? 11/11/2011 08:23 by KatyAmeglio First answer posted by SallyWhittaker at 11/11/2011 08:23 Add Your Answer 10~1000 characters in length CAPTCHA: Post without login 1 Answers SallyWhittaker Error 1606 sometimes occurs when you try to uninstall software from a Windows PC. Microsoft has documented this and issued a fix. The error occurs if you have specific settings incorrectly configured in your Windows registry. The fix allows you to successfully remove the Office XP software. Background Error 1606 refers to a "could not access network location" error. The error occurs when settings in your registry cause your operating system to look in the wrong location for files relating to your Windows user profile. Solution Microsoft provides a downloadable Fix It utility program that automatically resolves the issue on your computer. Download the utility from Microsoft's website and run it. Office XP should then uninstall without problems. Alternative If this fix fails, Microsoft also provides detailed instructions to manually fix the problem. These instructions involve amending a range of Windows folder paths to prevent the error occurring. Warning Modifying the Windows registry can be dangerous and cause system problems. Before attempting the manual fix procedure, ensure you have a backup, and if in doubt, ask a PC expert to assist you.
