After several attempts using the obvious Control Panel to remove the program and then manually uninstalling EL folders using EL tech support (which took care of most items, including reversing Outlook Express set-up) I still have a lingering issue with EL Accelerator. I found the Accelerator folder but can't delete these two dll files: file:///C:/Program%20Files/EarthLink%20TotalAccess/Accelerator/prpl_IePopupBlocker.dll file:///C:/Program%20Files/EarthLink%20TotalAccess/Accelerator/prplsf.dll Currently, when I try to open a Windows program (My Computer or Search or folders) I get several pop-up windows from "Earthlink Accelerator" resulting in a error message 1206. This is probably a No-Brainer for you good folks but it appears the Earthlink Total Access and specifically EL Accelerator which I'm trying to completely uninstall was used to hide/support a Trojan or some other bad guy from the dark side. I have Windows XP Pro and actively scan with Bit Defender, but this issue is under the radar. After several attempts using the https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8ab152cc-8a5c-46af-8a8b-b54c98cc1eda/can-not-uninstall-earthlink-and-el-accelerator?forum=Offtopic obvious Control Panel to remove the program and then manually uninstalling EL folders using EL tech support I have most items removed except for this two pesky files: file:///C:/Program%20Files/EarthLink%20TotalAccess/Accelerator/prpl_IePopupBlocker.dll file:///C:/Program%20Files/EarthLink%20TotalAccess/Accelerator/prplsf.dll I can't delete these because it appears they have linked themselves to explorer.exe kinda like a "open with" file making them "in-use" all the time. So, any Windows file I open on the desktop or in the Start menu triggers a series of pop-up http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/possible-trojan error messages from Earthlink Accelerator. Ex...clicking on the "My Computer" icon: pop-up #1: Please wait while Windows configures Earthlink Accelerator pop-up #2: The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "Accelerator.msi" in the box below. (drop down path: C:Documents and Settings\Owner\Local\Temp) pop-up #3: The path: C:Documents and Settings\Owner\Local\Temp\Accelerator.msi' can not be found. Verify you have access to this location (I do) and try again, or try to find the installation package Accelerator.msi in a folder from which you can install the product Earthlink Accelerator. pop-up #4: Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Eartlink Accelerator. The Windows Installer could not continue. I've tried to do a explorer.exe "end process" in Task Manager but don't know how to find and nuke these files without Explorer. I'm not DOS savvy. Thanks for anything that could rid me of this issue. Try this little utility called Unlocker which has helped many folks delete stubborn files. If that doesn't work at first, boot into Safe Mode which should prevent those .dll files from being loa
