Paula Reply With Quote 11-19, 09:19 PM #2 Error 1706 I am using windows xp professional and office 2000. When I install office 2000 I do a custom install and check run all from my computer so that I shouldn't need the cd. My problem is that when I try to add a graph or a chart into an application like powerpoint it tries to install something and is looking for the cd. In this case I can't always put the cd in for it to run and it returns an error 1706 saying it can't find the location of the data1.msi file. I am confused because I did a complete install and it shouldn't be installing on first use. Dave Reply With Quote 11-20, 02:47 AM #3 Re: Error 1706 Dave, Dunno, but a couple of questions. Do you have the ability to log in as an Administrator to install? That may help. Also, the msi file is definitely an install file. I wonder if there is something wrong with the media and it is not installing properly? -- Regards, Glen Millar Microsoft PPT MVP http://www.powerpointworkbench.com/ Please tell us your ppt version, and get back to us here "Dave"

This error is caused by several issues with the Office installer, and has its roots with the likes of having administrative privileges, having corrupt / damaged files, or just not using the CD properly. You may receive an error that looks similar to the following: "Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\1033\Setup.hlp."
