Now, every time I start the programme, I get a message saying, “the feature you are trying to use is on

a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available” When I cancel that message, I am advised of “Error 1706”, and that the programme is looking for, vs_setup.msi After cancelling several times the messages cease, and VB6 loads. The problem is I have searched the installation disk and cannot find any file named, vs_setup.msi This problem has only arisen since I re-installed VB6. Any ideas? Thanks Nov 21 '05 #1 Post Reply Share this Question 1 Reply P: n/a http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?542110-Error-1706 Mona \(Grapecity\) Hi Chuck, This error can occur if the media files required to make the .MSI files are not accessible by the framework. This can happen if the media that is currently being used and the media that was originally used to install the program have the MSI file at different relative paths. To work around this problem, insert the visual studio disk into my cdrom drive and then https://bytes.com/topic/visual-basic-net/answers/375128-deployment-error-message build the setup project. When it is building the setup project it will search for the visual studio disk and it will fix the problem. to use the deployment solution builder for the first time (after having developed several VB applications prior to this), I am getting http://www.yqcomputer.com/46_644_1.htm the following error part-way through the building phase: "Error 1706. No valid source code could be found for product Visual Studio .NET Academic 2003 - English. The Windows installer cannot continue." Right before that is the message box "Please wait while Windows configures Visual Studio .NET Academic 2003 - English..." - as if it is trying to error 1706 install some additional feature (but it never prompts for the CD). Once I press OK on the Error 1706 message box, everything starts over automatically and this cycle is repeated. I have to hit "Cancel" on the "Please wait..." message box to get out of this. How can I fix this? - Thanks, JRD Top error 1706 windows 1. Compiling Deployment Package invokes installer (Error 1706) 2. Error 1706 "No valid source" - one solution found I've installed and updated Office 2000 as administrator on a friend's machine. When she used her non-admin account to run any Office program, she'd get (3 times): "Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Office 2000 Premium. The Windows installer cannot continue" ... after which the program would run normally (apparently). After research, I tried upgrading from Windows Installer 1.1 to Installer 3. No change. Then I tried removing any part of Office set to "Install on 1st use". No change. Then, noticing that the programs ran ok in the administrator account, I upgraded her (Power User) account to the Administrators group. The Installer window appeared next time, completed successfully, and has never been seen since. I've since downgraded her account again (for security reasons). Hope that helps someone else out there. -- #################### ## PH, London #################### 3. Error 1706 - An old problem but no solution exact
