Register Now or Log In to post Welcome back, My Profile Log Out Recent Activity FAQs Guidelines Question 0 Votes Locked "Error 1706 No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Office 200 By groer · 10 years ago I installed a new hard drive, put XP Pro on it and then did all the windows updates incl SP2.Then I insalled error 1706 windows 10 Office 2000 which works fine for me - admin account.My wife's account is a standard user. When I try to open Word from her account I get"Error 1706 No valid source could be found for product Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional. The Windows installer cannot continue"After cancelling 3 times Word runs. But next time - it goes through the same thing again.I can't find this same problem on MS website. They have got this error - but not from the same cause. ever i try to install i new program a get the following error message when trying to install it error 1706 no valid source code error 1706 setup cannot find the required files office 2010 could be found for the product EASY CD & DVD CREATOR 6 -

i have removed that product from my computer a couple of months ago. this error doesnt happen all the time

I suspect your problem is related to the fact that you are loading software on CD-ROMs from a DVD drive and XP is having problems locating the drivers but the fix isn't simple. Microsoft says that Error 1706 is a Microsoft Office Error code which indicates that required files can not be found by Setup. Since you are trying to http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/401983.html install new programs I feel that this is probably the correct interpretation of your error code. Microsoft's Knowledge Base Article 297834, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;297834 States that this happens if all the following conditions are true: >You originally installed Office from a network administrative installation. >The network administrative installation is no longer available to you. >You are trying to use an Office CD-ROM when you are prompted by the Windows Installer for an Office source location. You don't actually ask a question but I presume you would like to obtain some help in fixing this problem. Microsoft reports that this problem applies to: MS Office 2003 and Office XP setup This should explain why the problem occurs only part of the time as you state. to fix the problem please read the Microsoft KBA carefully but, since you are asking the question here I also presume you are running a workstation and not connected to a local network. If so, you will probably need to uninstall Microsoft Office (2003 or XP, depending on your version) and then re-install it. This problem can also occur if you have an unlicensed version of Office or haven't registered it. Please read the Micros
